Congressman Clyburn says if passed, the national hymn would have a special place alongside the existing US anthem, ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.
United States congressman James Clyburn has filed a bill to make ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ the country’s new national hymn in a move the Democrat says, “would be an act of bringing the country together”.
‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’, popularly known as the Black national anthem, has had a place of honour in the Black musical canon for more than a century.
Clyburn, the House majority whip, put forward the proposal on 13 January, calling for the song to be given a special place as a “national hymn” alongside official US anthem ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.
Clyburn believes it would help unite the country in a time of reckoning with its long history of racial turmoil.
“To make it a national hymn, I think, would be an act of bringing the country together,” Clyburn, the highest-ranking Black American in Congress, told USA Today. “It would say to people, ‘You aren’t singing a separate national anthem, you are singing the country’s national hymn’.”

These people are insane.
You'd think it would be The Pretenders "I Went Back to Ohio"
Does Clyburn have nothing better to do? In a sane world, a Congressman making $174,000 a year wouldn’t be making such a suggestion because it would reveal that he’s not doing the job he’s being paid to do, just as the tax paying plumber wouldn’t ignore the leaking pipes to instead make curtain suggestions. This takes us back to the very reason these politicians were supposed to live among their constituents so they could experience the anger they should be rightly experiencing.
Louie Louie is Washington’s unofficial state rock song because they never completed the paperwork.
It was written in L.A. so apparently cover songs are okay for “official” songs.
I agree. Clybum is proof that evil never dies.
Maybe AOC could work that song into her pole dancing routine.
Why not This little light of mine.
Well considering the attitude of the new left “Fuck the Police” would seem the most logical choice.
It’s a nice song. Has been in the Baptist Hymnal forever.
Still ... “O Say Can You See” is it.
And “Lift Ev’ry Voice” talks about the “WHITE gleam”. I think that’s racist.
They want us to unify around their policies that are destroying the very core of our once great constitutional republic.
I will never unite with them. They are a blight on everything that makes this nation great. No! I will never be one of them.
“I get no kick from champagne....”
It’s a ruse to phase out The Star Spangled Banner, then they will replace it with something else, like “This Land is Your Land”
“then they will replace it with something else, like ‘This Land is Your Land’”
Or “I’d Like to Teach The World To Sing” — blecccch!
They will want to leave out any reference to God, of course...
Lets just eliminate the commies and keep the national anthem.
This LEVAS is political appeasement.
Or “The Internationale” or “The East is Red”
Oh by the way, if we add new States, the Stars and Stripes goes “Bye Bye”, and essentially becomes the new Confederate Flag.
