Congressman Clyburn says if passed, the national hymn would have a special place alongside the existing US anthem, ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.
United States congressman James Clyburn has filed a bill to make ‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’ the country’s new national hymn in a move the Democrat says, “would be an act of bringing the country together”.
‘Lift Every Voice and Sing’, popularly known as the Black national anthem, has had a place of honour in the Black musical canon for more than a century.
Clyburn, the House majority whip, put forward the proposal on 13 January, calling for the song to be given a special place as a “national hymn” alongside official US anthem ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’.
Clyburn believes it would help unite the country in a time of reckoning with its long history of racial turmoil.
“To make it a national hymn, I think, would be an act of bringing the country together,” Clyburn, the highest-ranking Black American in Congress, told USA Today. “It would say to people, ‘You aren’t singing a separate national anthem, you are singing the country’s national hymn’.”

Lift Every Voice And Sing, till earth and Heaven ring, Ring with the harmonies of liberty; Let our rejoicing rise, high as the listening skies, Let it resound loud as the rolling sea. Sing a song full of the faith that the dark past has taught us, Sing a song full of the hope that the present has brought us; Facing the rising sun of our new day begun, Let us march on till victory is won.
Stony the road we trod, bitter the chastening rod, Felt in the days when hope unborn had died; Yet with a steady beat, have not our weary feet, Come to the place for which our fathers sighed? We have come over a way that with tears has been watered, We have come, treading our path through the blood of the slaughtered; Out from the gloomy past, till now we stand at last Where the white gleam of our bright star is cast.
God of our weary years, God of our silent tears, Thou Who hast brought us thus far on the way; Thou Who hast by Thy might, led us into the light, Keep us forever in the path, we pray. Lest our feet stray from the places, our God, where we met Thee. Lest our hearts, drunk with the wine of the world, we forget Thee. Shadowed beneath Thy hand, may we forever stand, True to our God, true to our native land.

I think “Baby Got Back” is a better choice.
As long as it’s a “National Hymn” rather than a new National Anthem I don’t see a problem with this. There are other hymns I like a lot more but I see nothing wrong with this hymn. Besides, the progressives will take issue with it because it mentions God.
And if you don’t vote for it, you is a rasis.
I was just wondering how long it would take to shorten it in the name of ‘brevity.’
I think it should be ‘Row, Row, Row Your Boat”............................
B-I-N-G-O....................................
I like your thinking😉
They’ll want to replace mentions of God with “You know, the thing.”
/sarcasm on/Can I kneel???/sarcasm off/
How about, “Boom! There It Is!”
Oh yes, this will make the people that lost their jobs feel so much better./s
It’s good to see where their priorities are./s

Since we’re not the land of the free and the home of the brave anymore I guess anything goes. We’re witnessing the complete and total communist takeover of our country. If there isn’t a revolt against this blatant theft of our liberties THIS year it’s over.
How about a national opera? National guitar riff? National drum solo? Enough with the official national and state [fill in the blank] silliness. Does Ohio really need a state fossil? < /old man shaking his cane mode>
Agree with Hymn, but I prefer “Blest Be The Tie That Binds”.

And if you vote for it, you are pandering.
A no-win situation.
How about “What’s Going On” by Marvin Gaye? We need a little soul to go along with all the chitlins being spread around. Goes good with wallermelon too.
“We Shall Overcome” goes well too. The Black Caucasians should like that one.
Good point.
They will want to leave out any reference to God, of course...
Oh, it'll start there, with promises that it won't replace the National Anthem, so the normies don't get too agitated.
But, it will start, immediately, being sung in place of the National Anthem at sporting events, next the schools, after that government events.
And then before you know it, it WILL be the official American National Anthem...and you'll never hear The Star Spangled Banner sung anywhere again because to do so will be deemed punishable Hate Speech.
