From the ‘cloud’, what is it, specifically? AD on Azure, AD/file services on AWS? Salesforce? Depends on the ‘source’ service, and where you are moving it to.

As far as moving email from one platform to another - is that same laptop, new email software, or are you meaning to a new laptop, but same software? or even new laptop and new software?

I work with Cisco ASA’s, Palo Alto NGFW’s, and Juniper SRX’s - so should be able to figure out what you need/make a recommendation on VPN...

I’ll PM you my personal cell, reach about about 2030 CST, and I’ll see what I can do to help.

Oh, that doesn’t include my 16 years of Cisco wireless (formerly Airespace), some Ubiquiti, LOTS of Meraki lately (MX’s, MS’s, and MR’s), haven’t worked with Fortinet FW’s, nor the new Cisco FirePower FW’s, just the ASA’s... a dabble in Checkpoint... OSPF/Multi-point BGP, multiple ISP circuits for load-balance, and traffic shaping, MPLS, CatOS, IOS, IOS-XE, IOS-XR... generally 25 years with just about everything Cisco makes (WebEx, WebEx Teams, call managers, ISE (and before that Cisco Clean Access), DWDM on the M6/15454 platform, with 15216 frequency add/drop multiplexers, design with Aruba, Clear Pass, Airwave, Panorama.... really a jack of all trades; even worked on Bay Networks gear in the mid 90’s, built the cable ISP here in Houston (Was Roadrunner, then Time Warner, then AOLTW, then Cox, and now “Xfinity” (owned by Cox).

I started with Unix and Xenix centralized servers with Computone multi-TTY port board with Wyse 50/60/120 terminals... even worked on Wang VS, gosh, I can’t remember what we used at Telecheck anymore... Linux (variations now), went through the Python course via Coursera with Dr. Scott Rixner, basic HTML, some Java, Powershell, lots of batch scripts to do various things via cron jobs or “run at” specific times....

Fixed fiber (both SM and MM) for the US Army, ran thousands of copper cabling (heck, I started “Ethernet” with 10b-Thinnet running on 3Com Superstack II switches, and Racal Datacomm / Proteon routers.... Was Lotus Notes 1-2-3 certified once upon a time... have held various Cisco certs over the years - CCNA / CCNA wireless / CCNP wireless / CCNA Security... heck, I don’t know....

Because I have found that there do not seem to be as much versatility in electronics guys as I remember. For example I am not seeing young tech savvy kids like there were 10 or 12 years ago

You know, I dont WANT to do it my self. I am happy to pay someone to do it.

I am sorry, I read through all of the posts in the thread while trying to put myself in you or my elderly parents place. There was some good advice given, but I am not sure that I or anyone else provided much that you probably found to be of much help.

You are certainly not alone. The majority of people in our society do not “WANT” to spend the time, energy, or have the patience to figure out how to perform even the relatively simple tasks that you want accomplished.

Hopefully you will find someone who can give you some hands on help where you live. You do need to be very, very careful about who you choose. If you conduct any of your financial life using your computer, as most of us now do... anyone who is given access to your accounts and passwords along with your computer will basically have the ability to fleece you completely. That is why depending on your age and level of aptitude it is often worth devoting effort into becoming more computer savvy. Good luck with what you are hoping to accomplish.

Thank you for understanding. I use my computer minimally for financial issues. I am one of the dying few who go to the bank.

The level of expertise required for setting up a VPN or a transfer from one email system to another is just more than I want to try. I have and it is complicated. And I freeze thinking that I will lose my data.
