I cannot WAIT for this!
This means I can do my job from a sailboat reliably. I can be at sea, anywhere, and work.
At that point, adios.
HughesNet satellite (I’m on it) is much cheaper.
Is StarLink susceptible to weather the way HugheNet is?
If you’re in snow country, never mount your dish where you can’t easily get to it to brush snow off. A mistake I made.
This will kill companies like Comcast. It has the potential to break part of the strangle hold of bigtech.
If Elon can deliver those speeds he’s got a winner. The problem with current satellite internet is that it is too slow. I have Comcast which I really have no issues with their service.....except they are a far left company. I’ll do this if Elon can get it going.
Satellite signals have inherent high latency, not useful to my setup.
I signed up for the Beta test but no word , oh my ,LOL
I’ve actually seen those satellites and I think Musk is cool. But I’ve got wireless from a company that uses our hill that our water tanks sit on to broadcast into a shadow that other companies can’t get to. Since I’m on the water board I get the service free. Can’t beat a deal like that. Right?
All good except when there’s a storm. Then no signal.
I’ve got unlimited internet through an antennae. $65 per month and no equipment cost. Yes, it works during a storm!
35-45 mbs.
I’m wondering is Elon is thinking about more than just Internet access:
Hope Musk has non-political, free speech browser, social media and store sites for it!
I would consider using a satellite ISP like Star Link because of the poor options currently available to me with cable or DSL. My options are limited in my community because our city, like many other cities, uses a franchise system which limits competition. The franchise is supposedly to compensate for the burial of cables in the rights of way. However, it is simply a tax applied to subscribers bills and limits competition. Given our dependence on high speed Internet access with COVID forcing virtual schools and work from home Musk might have a winner if the price stays competitive and the service is reliable.
Probably 25% of Americans need better Internet, and probably 3-5% have no Internet service at all right now.
This could go over YUUUUGE!
So I’ll pay 3X my DSL line cost and be subject to weather interference?
I use Viasat now, I will switch as soon as the new system is available.
Ping.
5.56mm
This just seems odd to me. Upload has to be severely limited.
They are laying fiber all over the country.
I get 1gps up and down for $69/mo from att
Musk should bar Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc, unless they agree to cessation of censorship.
I live in the boondocks—the hilly boondocks. Cell phone service is sketchy at best. Was on dial-up modem. Now I enjoy high-speed internet—5.5 mbps! Would love to get even the cable speeds, but the cable ends a couple of miles down the road.
Sorry...
Can’t use anything as slow as 79.5 Mbps as of October 2020...
Ping me when 700-900 Mbps is available...
