Holy Toledo!!! I just added my 16 year old daughter to our policy this evening and the premium for full coverage on 3 vehicles went from close to 1100.00 for six months to just under 3000.00. Time to switch carriers immediately! As if 2021 couldn’t get worse with the fraud President being installed in already getting gouged with insurance and soon to be gasoline.
Been with them since 1980.
Always had fast and easy and friendly claim service, too include hail damage to an American car and getting it repaired while in the UK. No problem.
Home flooded last year, no quibbling and home flooded at about 0330hrs and by 0500hrs had clean up crew working and we were booked into the local Marriott for a months stay. Nice.
Sorry you had trouble.
Can’t explain it because that is 180 from my experience.
You gotta make them bid for your business and that will require switching every year or two.
For instance, I had GEICO, they cranked up the rates. So I switched to esurance for 30% less. They cranked up the rates after two years. No accidents, no claims, same address. Went back to GEICO for 30% off, lower than the rate I’d started with them years before.
And so it goes. Can’t afford to stand still these days. It’s just a pain re-entering the vehicle info and navigating the sites as they are inconstant motion also. One of the things I really like about Free Republic is that they keep the same old basic interface - just wait in a few more years it will be called hip and modern ;-)
That WAS funny.
do you live in a metro area?
For our three boys, we added a couple of incentives. In order to be able to take driver's ed, they had to make the rank of Eagle. All of our boys were 18 when they began drivers ed. And, they had reached Eagle. Because they worked so hard we promised to pay for half of their insurance.
And, if they wanted a cell phone they paid for it themselves.
“If you or any i. Your family are or were military, Rendon walk to USAA!!”
I recently got quotes for auto insurance. USAA was hundreds more for a six month policy than Travelers. One driver, one vehicle. Perfect driving record. I believe they were 60% higher. You might want to get new quotes.

Unfortunately we live in the Northern burbs of Atlanta. Downtown is a 40 minute drive which is about 29 miles door to downtown.
Our reward system for our two kids are grade based. They maintain high A’s we pay for their cell phone bills. So thankfully we have been paying them even with honors chemistry, Spanish and trigonometry. They’re far smarter than I am and proud that they’re working so hard.
My wife wanted to purchase a new car for my daughter, glad we didn’t do that. She was one of the kids in school that got a new car every year because her dad had to buy a new car every year, her mom never had a drivers license.
I was expecting about 150 more per month but based on the new premium it’s 300 per month and none of us have any claims on any of our policies.
First off, be glad your new driver is female or you would really be crying the blues.
Next, the thread is full of advice to use USAA - forget that! I was with them for over 20 years when my first teenage driver, a male, arrived on the policy and it was BOHICA time for me. I left USAA in the 90s and haven’t looked back. Liberty Mutual was my first landing spot and they got the job done. Since then, we’ve become empty nest grandparents and AAA has my all my insurance business.
I like several of the tactics mentioned here, especially the one about taking the new driver’s car off the main policy and shopping it separately for liability only then making her a prohibited driver on the main policy for the other cars. The other tactic of shopping your insurance coverage every couple of years is an idea I need to use.
It is good for kids to learn that working hard actually pays off.
Used to be with USAA but their rates are way higher than Coscto’s Connect insurance. Good reason to be a member.

I max out my deductible and get rid of any collision, towing, rental coverage. Just the liability coverage. Have 1 teen driving and 4 cars covered costing $842 every 6 months.
Even with the best brokers in the business, auto insurance for young women is just sky high. Grin and bear it. Not much else to do.
That is who we have and worked with them prior to buying vehicles too. However, my son waited til he was older to get his license. So, we did not hit the 16 year old driver jump. Also, our rates just went down unexpectedly this past month!
When all the deferred rents come due and that will be sooner rather than later, people will be living out of their cars just like Democrat depression of the 30’s.

Rates are great for me.
Post 61.
Ignore the complainers.
They are great and provide excellent work-wife service and support. If they are that bad, then change, otherwise one wonders why they stayed with them for 20-hrs.
Everyone has their own experience and mine, 40-hrs, has all been positive.
iPhone and old eyes don’t work well together.
When was the last time you checked?
I pulled the insurance wang for a while not too long ago.
You don’t say which carrier you’re with: Mistake #2.
Mistake #1: Failing to treat your daughter’s impending teen years as a financial liability and consulting with your financial advisor who, if they’re worth a shit, would have advised you to consult with an independent insurance agent to plan ahead.
Short answer: You’re screwed. Sell the Hyundai, buy her a 20+ year old Honda and get the cheapest 100/300/100 liability limits you can get. There are numerous online rating apps to ‘rate’ you and tell you which company might do it.
It’s not about the carrier: It’s about your insurance history, your driving history, the car a dozen other rating variables.
Sorry to be brutally blunt, but I equate this to going out one day to buy a house with no credit and no down payment.
Own it, or tell your daughter she’s not driving until she can pay for her own insurance.
Personally, I’m in favor of raising the driving age to at least 18 nationally for a number of reasons.
I’m raising FOUR grandkids (13-19). Told them I couldn’t do the car/insurance thing. Wait until you move out then get whatever you want. No real reason for them to need to drive around here anyway.
