I heard that there is a Chinese variety of milkweed that is overtaking the natural milkweed and that this is contributing to the Monarch butterfly die-off.
In Michigan they have a program to encourage people to kill the Chinese milkweed and plant natural milkweed.
And no, I am not making up the Chinese part.

Over 90% - over, WAY over – 90% of all the species that have ever lived on this planet, ever lived, are gone! Pwwt! They’re extinct! We didn’t kill them all, they just disappeared. That’s what nature does. They disappear these days at the rate of 25 a day and I mean regardless of our behaviour. Irrespective of how we act on this planet, 25 species that were here today will be gone tomorrow. Let them go gracefully. Leave nature alone. Haven’t we done enough?

We’re on a partial flyway here in NY western hills...fingerlakes area...there are a few oaks where they roost at night for 2-3 days before heading on...not unusual to see 40-50 a day in our meadow
