Already, the number of National Guard troops in the nation’s capital from around the country has grown to about 21,000, Army Gen. Daniel Hokanson, chief of the National Guard Bureau, told Vice President Mike Pence at a briefing Thursday.
The soldiers and airmen from Washington state will support their federal partners in roles determined by the lead federal security agencies, the Washington National Guard said Thursday.
Biden and Harris will be sworn in at the same location where the violent, pro-Trump mob descended on the U.S. Capitol, but the two events aren’t comparable from a security standpoint, said Michael Plati, U.S. Secret Service special agent in charge, who is leading the inauguration security.
The inauguration is designated as a “national special security event,” which clears the way for communication, funding and preparation between multiple agencies in Washington, such as the Capitol Police, Pentagon, Homeland Security and District-area police. Other such events are the president’s State of the Union address, the Super Bowl and the Democratic and Republican National Conventions.

Q: Why would Trump only call up Guard from Trump-hating states?
Guys, what if Trump isn’t in charge.
President Trump approved the NG deployment. Sec Def is charged with carrying out the authorization. States cannot deploy NG without federal authorization and they certainly cannot just deploy them on whim to wherever a governor chooses. What special skills do the 400 from WA state possess that warrants flying them the length of the country? Warm bodies, if that is all that is all that is required, could be rounded up within a couple hours driving distance.
This is all so bizarre. No National Guard are called for rioters burning and looting cities, but an army encampment is set up with shoot-to-kill orders for a virtual Inauguration. Is this to ensure that no anti-Biden protests will be tolerated — now or ever?
Trump not in charge - the only other possibility. Would the Acting SECDEF concede like that?

Biden couldn’t get anyone to go to his rallies except the leftist media. Maybe they’ll have the Nat Guard in their street clothes to make it look like plenty of people attended the inauguration.
I think you have a valid opinion. Trump called up the troops by request of the DC mayor. Biden does not have any authority to call up any troops until after he is sworn in. Thus this is a Trump event.
The quantity of troops is excessive. What must also be taken into account is the near lack of attendance by any crowds and the Potomac bridges being closed. If bridges are closed then one can safely assume roadways from Maryland will be blocked.
It does not take 20 to 30 thousand troops just to protect Biden and the capital buildings from a few hundred people that might show up to raise hell.
We must also account for the actual DC police force, the US Marshals and Secret Service people not to mention a strong FIB force that will be there.
Just why did Trump authorize such a huge excessive force to isolate and shut down DC?
Among the probable answers is the signing of the Insurrection Act and the arrest of traitors and seizure of evidence at all the federal agencies.
A stolen election is not stolen until the perpetrator is actually sworn in.
This is similar to a sting operation in a huge bank highest. The cops monitoring a gang getting ready to pull off a huge robbery will not arrest them for the small stuff, like stealing guns, cars and plotting. They will catch them in the act. Same here, why arrest someone for vote switching and having a contacts with Red China. The sting will not be effective until Biden is actually sworn in.
For some reason what will be played out, hopefully, reminds me of Godfather 1 where Pacino is at his Granddaughter’s Christening and his people are taking care of business. Not as bloody of course, just have a lot of orange jump suits available.
I saw a video from somebody in D.C. - walking around showing the troops and the military style gates and checkpoints, he was genuinely shocked. There’s nothing normal about what is going on there. This is a MASSIVE security operation.
It reminds me of a new communist regime taking power, knowing what they’re about to do and implementing their own protection ahead of time. It screams of illegitimacy.
