He defended the police officer’s decision to shoot Babbitt: “His actions will be judged in a lot of different ways moving forward, but his actions I believe saved people’s lives even more. Unfortunately, it did take one, though.”

In interviews, members of Babbitt’s family have defended her political views, and her anger.

“My sister was a normal Californian,” her brother, Roger Witthoeft, told the New York Times. “The issues she was mad about were the things all of us are mad about.”

Babbitt had served in the military for 14 years, Witthoeft said. “If you feel like you gave the majority of your life to your country and you’re not being listened to, that is a hard pill to swallow. That’s why she was upset.”

y'all can read this smear piece for yourself but I wanted to draw attention to first, the piling on and shaming done by the Guardian of murder victim. Second, the callous comment from Markwayne Mullin, third to remind readers that the original defense that the shooter 'warned 3 or 4 times' before discharging his (her?) weapon is not substantiated on any video or audio taken of the shooting at the time. And fourth, that a M4-type armed LEO was practically next to Ashli at the time of the shooting and the fact he was armed, should have reassured the shooter lethal force was not necessary and should have deterred the shooter from discharging his own weapon blindly into a crowd.

Has the security officer who killed Ashli been named? When does he go on trial?

at a local interview, the family has said nobody has contacted them. Not a California critter, not a DC critter. The family found out about Ashli’s murder from tv footage replays.

Californians were ticked off before; they’re even more ticked off now.

I will say, from the poorly placed film, it looked like she was part way up one of the doors/walls, whereas the others in view were still on the ground. Don’t know if there was a breach in a door/wall she was maybe trying to get through.

I don’t know what everyone was holding, so don’t know if this guy perceived any “weapons”, either.

But yes, he was very close, so I’d think he’d have some idea. Never got the impression most of these people had any real “armament”.
