Looks like the DOW Industrials are apparently good pending a Democrat takeover. Perhaps we are the fools that can't see. I don't know. They have broken every rule of economics and governing and the markets are applauding it. Stocks are up across a broad range.

Perhaps you are right. But these Democrats are more rabid than those of previous decades. They are more radical, more socialist and they have whipped up their base to such a degree, that I don’t think they can easily walk it back. I am not so optimistic.

California had a surplus of $21.5 billion in FY 2020 and was on track for a $7 billion surplus in FY 2021 before the pandemic hit. This was not a fluke; it had successfully adjusted its spending and taxation in such a way that it could support its own spending and save for the future.
Moreover, by just about every metric you can imagine, red states consistently receive much, much more money from the federal government per capita than red states. They also generally receive more money by government contracts. So, for example, while California sees 96 cents for every dollar to contributes in federal taxes, Kentucky sees $1.71. There's much more detail at the links. But in short, the whole idea of "blue state bailouts" is fundamentally dishonest and has no basis in reality.
California isn't in the red because of mismanagement, it's in the red because of a natural disaster. Usually we let the federal government spend money to fix that. Why can't we do that now?
I'm eligible for social security but not collecting it because I still enjoy working. How much longer that remain the case remains to be seen.
Transitioning from a "growth" economy to a "redistribution" economy will change a lot of minds of people in a similar situation as I am.
And there will be a lot less for the redistributionist faction to loot.
