Speaking of Blue Oyster Cult, the Bryan Adams song "Run To You" was originally written for BOC - but they turned the song down.
That would have been a massive hit for them and might have featured some cowbell.

I could listen to Randy Bachman talk about music all day long.
You should check out Mark Steyn's interview with him - fascinating stuff.

I was going to say Three Dog Night’s song Black and White, but you are correct with Hugh.

Yeah— lot’s of good music, wish he had stuck to just that. And that the Yankees took on Fidel Castro to the team- and thus prevented 60 plus years of tyranny.
Sort of like Calypso Louie- Farrakhan (a crazed lunatic with the Nation of Islam “movement” of bow tie wearing murderers. Fairly well established that he killed Malcolm X- and confirmed it in public speech).

Good subject.
The cowbell here is in there, but it’s barely discernible. And I love the Beatles, and Ringo’s drumming. He’s a great song drummer.
For me, the award goes to Mississippi Queen. Really stands out, sets the tone. I hear that cowbell, and I immediately jam the volume control. MQ is just a perfect blues rock song, start to finish.
Runner up goes to Honky Tonk Women. It’s just that, for me, MQ is a better song.

With access to the original master tapes, Randy Bachman (of BTO) dissects the chord in this short but fascinating video. If you haven't seen this, do so:
