If nature abhors a vacuum, what vacuum is created when conservatives shun protesting?

Everybody knows that nature abhors a vacuum.

Well, we saw how successful the Tea Party protests were. But for decades, we've had a cancer that looks down on the constitutionally required act of protesting, as if that's just "a left wing thing". This is a widespread viewpoint among Establishment Republican, but its prevalence is both wide and deep and not limited to them.

It stands as a good topic for discussion. What kind of vacuum have you created by not protesting? There was no protest last April 15th, there have not been any protests in front of the Supreme Court for the last - I can't think of any Supreme Court decision protested by conservatives besides Roe. Certainly not Wickard. Certainly not Obergefell. Certainly not any other tens or hundreds that all deserved more heat than they got. There have never been any large-scale protests in front of major media outlets, and they're on the forefront of destroying everything. When the Department of Education was formed, there were no protests. Twitter and Google and all the rest of them are shutting down speech, I have not seen one major protest planned by anybody. This is the easiest and most direct way to engage in culture, and its the most unused and unleveraged.

We have a whole lot of protest-worthy issues that won't receive their due. Since they won't receive their due, what vacuum is being created?

Who is filling that vacuum?

TOPICS: Society
KEYWORDS: protest; protesting
Looters and rioters are what fills the vacuum when the good guys refuse to stand up and be counted. And of course big government. That is the legacy of inaction.

Get out of here with this protest nonsense.

ARMED men should have showed up en masse to protect the southern statues and the confederate flag. And the Columbus statues.

Some Italian neighborhoods took patrols with baseball bats.

We’re WAY past protesting.

Nobody will care.

When a government has made up its mind, it’s time to dance..not carry posters with slogans.

Remember the MANY many millions who protested against bush attacking Iraq? How’d that pan out?

Just one example of many.

It’s past protest time.

We either act for real if biden gets in or we don’t.

Thank God we didn’t “protest” against the Japanese after Pearl Harbor.

When do those of us working and earning and raising kids have time to protest?

That is the advantage the left has —- lots of childless man-children with loads of free time on their hands.

It’s why I vote, and why we have been cheated out of its power.

I guess when we are all unemployed under leftist policies, we can protest then.

The Founding Fathers didn't think protesting was nonsense. It was so important to them, they embedded it right into the Constitution in plain language.

Phyllis Schlafly successfully used protesting to throw the ERA onto the ash heap of history.

As for the statues, that's another good example of a failure to act.

"We’re WAY past protesting."

There's an irony to these four words. You're proving my point. Because of the failure to protest for all these decades, the vacuum has grown so large look at all the filth that now fills it.

The universe actually prefers a vacuum. Even the densest material is mostly empty space.

The fact that most conservatives have jobs and responsibilities sort of makes it more difficult to show up. There is no conservative George Soros to pay the costs.

"When do those of us working and earning and raising kids have time to protest?"

I use my vacation time, weekends. I've taken unpaid time off as well. There was a time when I didn't have a cellphone, so I could use my money elsewhere. That included protests during the Tea Party era. I'm not saying you should do this. I'm just saying what I did to make it work.

The Founders, many of whom had more children than we did, found time to do it. And they had jobs and a brutal king to deal with.

"It’s why I vote, and why we have been cheated out of its power."

I agree. But the math doesn't work. It is 729 days from one election until the next election. If we are silent for those 729 days, do we really deserve our Liberty?

I can't say I'm ready to answer that question with a yes. Conversely, with protesting we haven't been cheated out of its power - there are simply who choose not to use it.

Nothing is impossible. Those things that are difficult are the ones worth pursuing.

The great Andrew Breitbart used to say that politics is downstream from culture.

There is no more simple and direct way to engage in culture for the average person than a large protest. I mean, unless you own a huge part of CNN or some other institution, but I know I don't. So as an individual without a large institution, the single best daily weapon is the protest. The media also fear conservative protests. That makes us more powerful than them.

And I'll keep saying it. It's in the constitution for a reason. The Founders WANTED us to be doing this. So that's helpful to have such good role models in the matter.

That points the point on the huge vacuum that gets created by the lack of action. Someone is going to fill it. If it's that important to you, you'll find a way to take time off.

This is something I wrote about a year ago, but journalists know that protesting makes us more powerful than them.

They’ve written it. It’s not conjecture. Public meetings are superior to newspapers.

Oh, come on now, “we’re better than that”.

And, “we don’t want to sink to their level!”

I’m not against protests at all. It’s just not as easy to take off and travel for people who aren’t living on the dole and don’t have Soros to pay the fares/meals.

Money is power.

If you can’t show up in person, protest with your wallet.

People who put their money where their mouths are can move mountains.

For folks who are fortunate enough to be employed, organized boycotts and buycotts are great forms of protest.

I used to believe that, but if those worked wouldn’t companies be getting more conservative instead of the other way around?

As examples.

Over the last 5 years, we’ve seen a hard turn toward big government by corporate entities. Are you seeing something different over the last 5 to 10 years?

As far as I can tell, these corporations are happy and excited if conservatives no longer buy from them. That’s my general take of the long term trend.

I’m very much for vigorous protests but most people today are complacent, simply fail to see any need to protest, and believe protests are not going to change anything anyway. It’s like calling or writing elected officials. Most people are convinced it’s a waste of time and will accomplish nothing, especially if their representatives are already clearly on record in opposition to the position advocated by the protester or caller.

Another political strategy that was common for many years was pamphleteering.
