Politico reports that Majority Leader Mitch McConnell held a conference call with Senate Republicans today and he pressed Hawley multiple times to explain his plans to object to the electoral college.
Hawley was not on the conference call.

I agree. They have been doing this for years. I don’t think Obama really won a second term. I remember how shocked they all seemed. He had a terrible economy and the R base was really revved up to vote him out.

Josh Hawley doesn’t give a shit about what McConnell thinks. I think there are a number of other Senators waiting to declare their objections. Any Senator that doesn’t join him will never have a chance of being elected President.
Trump will endorse him and then it will be game over.
One, it's futile. The House will not vote to sustain objections.
Two, even if it was possible, the Democrats would do the same thing to the next elected Repulican President. Remember, Al Gore certified the 2000 election despite his lawsuit and Joe Biden certified the 2016 election despite all the Russia nonsense. If this precedent is set the Dems will not hesitate to use it regardless of the legitimacy of the election.
