Powerball and MegaMillions are both over 300 million purses. As your securities adviser I require 10% if you win.

> I’d say even on an anonymous board you’re an idiot for saying you have a million dollars and more of a braggart than really asking for advice.

> Because if asking strangers for advice is how you have operated, you wouldn’t have one million dollars.

Based on something i read on FR, I bought a serious amount of AMD stock about 5 months ago. It went from 48 to 91 in that time. If that is your definition of idiot, fine, I would like to be an idiot for the rest of my life at that income rate.

And it is 100,000, not one million dollars... FRiend. And the amount was somewhat arbitrarily chosen by me, and it is arbitrary because I am not interested in absolute values. I am interested in proportions, as I mentioned in the original post. So $100k or $1m or any other amount does not change the answers that I am seeking. I am sorry if the manner in which I asked the question somehow... triggered you... anger management courses are available, as well as basic math courses. May I suggest you avail yourself of some at your earliest convenience. And also, you might have better luck studying and paying attention instead of shouting. Studying and paying attention is what I did 6 months ago and I made lots of money with it. I hope you were studying and paying attention too. Were you studying and paying attention 6 months ago? And after you studied and paid attention, did you have the guts to act on the knowledge that you acquired?? Have a nice day.

Certainly, if you will loan me 100% of the money upfront first, at -5% interest.

Buy blue chips. GM, American Tel and Tel, Standard Oil, United States Steel, and that new one IBM are good. It’s likely to edge out Burroughs Comptometer.

Round it out with some railroads. They are going places. And utilities are a great place to store your money. They have dividends, you know. And they are totally safe. Everyone is getting electricity nowadays.

Avoid municipal bonds, like the offerings from Detroit and Philadelphia. I did hear of a hot water issue in Flint, though. The fun of clipping the coupons wears off in a hurry.

There has been lots of bad news on Tesla over the past six months. If you look at their chart the news didn't make any impact on the stock. This is todays news.

Tesla to make India debut 'early' next year

> If you have a strong heart, you can buy and sell tsla daily, and with a 100K to play, go up and down some 5-10 K daily.

OK new idea, thanks.

I played with day trading for one day (about 10 years ago) and got burned for about $10k. I am on the west coast and i am a night owl and the best time for trading seems early in the morning EST, when I am usually still hitting the snooze button, if i am awake at all. if i am awake, i am usually too groggy to make any fast risky decisions. I feel that I need to find a way to fix my chronic insomnia first (suggestions welcome).

I pulled in more going long this past year than i ever made working a day job. I was not even expecting that to happen. I did pay off my home mortgage (I posted a thread a few days ago about that somewhere).

Well, my broker is E F Glutton soooo... he recommends Square , MickeyD, FedEX and many more and Chinese stocks like Alibaba and 10Cents and has given me lists of many more to consider.

Good luck,, picking good stocks is like finding the right spouse or a generous slot machine, well, close anyway. ;-)

Only 30 percent but wish I had. It's a small investment but is up 100 % since I bought it in August. Got the tip here.

> The stock market is at an all time high. Time to be selling. Too much euphoria. Look at yahoo finance and check each stock for future earnings and stock prices. Or just hold and keep holding.

Maybe get in then but get out during the last day of trading for this calendar year(?). Alternative thought is that the powers that be do not want biden perceived to be bad for the market, so they (the fed, the banks, the investment fund managers, etc) will try to counteract any short term market dips before january 20. just not certain that that is solid enough to bet any money on. another thought is that trump prevails on jan. 20 in which case hold and the market should stay in good shape for the next few months (because, trump).
thoughts welcome.

> Blue chips are steadier than bottle rocket small companies.

I tend to agree. I got burned in biotech about 7 years ago. I am totally clueless about biotech, which did not help. I was also advised to get out by a certain month and i waited until the 2nd of the month... too late, as it turned out... (the month was january). i was left with the impression that there is a lot of funny business going on in biotech which is not really technical. the advice was from a medical doctor who spent half his time in mainland china.

I have similar story for the last coupe years, mostly TSLA, HD and ALGN

Personally my heart probably could not take the stress for day trades, but I have noticed the rocket ride is in steps. Goes up a day or so like a rocket, then drops as the bottom drops out, then comes right back again.

personally, I would consider a cool off in a mutual like VIGAX, as they are loaded with mostly winners, (including tsla)

Any competing takes on TSLA out there?

I had to look up ALGN. Hmmm (but nice catch if you caught the wave).

I have been told to avoid risk since i am well into my 60s. I do think that my day trading days (all one of them) are over (alas, and good riddance lol).

Wow, VIGAX seems to do much better than SPY. I had been trying to get around to looking at Vanguard and so maybe now is the time, thanks!

There are like a dozen or so stock chat sites. Why do this here?

“and i would want to pull back and be very conservative after the new year. this is only for my ira accounts (in which there is evidently no penalty for short term investing”

3 days is a crap shoot not short term “investing”.

Short term “investing” usually means you don’t want to lose what you have which means sell everything and go to cash.

As to what’s going to happen after the first and if or when the Biden puppet takes over, don’t bet against the market. There’ll probably be stimuli up the wazu, and most of that money eventually ends up in the stock market, which is a type of inflation, and which is why bitcoin has gone totally nuts.

Have you not noticed that every time a stimulus passes the market goes crazy?

The other thing is that most of the big money in wall street donated/voted for Biden. They will for sure be some of the puppet masters, and they are not into losing money.

If there was going to be a “Biden crash” it would have already happened. The market is forward looking.

> There are like a dozen or so stock chat sites. Why do this here?

Because

1. this is where i got my previous stock tip, and i made lots of money off of it; and

2. there are many websites, and one can always claim that site a is better than site b for topic c, because of reason d. spending 200 years to find the perfect site for a post i leave to people like you.

3. i actually contribute money on a regular basis to this website. do you? if not, why not contribute now instead of putting on a holier than thou act?

Have a nice day.

But Bitcoin every single time it hits a high and then falls 2-3000. It will just make another new high, again and again, until $100,000. And no one will buy it because they just can't believe it.

But oh man if you really want to have some fun, buy SPX puts and Bitcoin longs if the Dems take both seats in the GA runoffs. With Cocaine Mitch out of the way, it won't be a onetime $2k check, it will be a WEEKLY $2k check -- indefinitely. And the market will tank, bitcoin (and gold) will explode and we will be in a world of shit.
