The cursor in this screenshot at the 2-second mark points to a plume of smoke. If you watch for that plume in the video you will see it appear and move across the screen. A second later the explosion cloud appears.

It appears that the wind has the “contrail” drifting to the right from behind the light post. When the “contrail” dissipates it starts at the top and moves down, which IMHO would lend credence to a contrail heading down.

BUT - as another freeper (another thread?) said somethink like “And the missile guys just happened to announce the explosion to warn people?”

I think it was an equipment malfunction in a vault under the street.

Look closely: He’s captured the detonation wave and multiple projectiles (aka ‘missiles’, to mock those mocking the OP) blown out of ground zero (perhaps from the device itself) and leading the smoke plume which follows the shock wave.

Clearly the humidity wasn’t very high or the shockwave would have been much clearer (like Beruit).

The video will provide clues for federal agents to retrieve blast evidence. Obviously blast debris extended several blocks. Looks like a much more powerful explosion than first reported.

On YouTube, you can click on the gear icon to the right of the CC in a box, and set the playback to 1/4 normal. Whatever it is is going up then dissipates. The video itself says “watch from the third light post, something streams into the air”.
