Just days before Amazon announced the big winners of its HQ2 sweepstakes, CEO Jeff Bezos had to address a separate but related concern among employees: Where is all this headed?
At an all-hands meeting last Thursday in Seattle, an employee asked Bezos about Amazon’s future. Specifically, the questioner wanted to know what lessons Bezos has learned from the recent bankruptcies of Sears and other big retailers.
“Amazon is not too big to fail,” Bezos said, in a recording of the meeting that CNBC has heard. “In fact, I predict one day Amazon will fail. Amazon will go bankrupt. If you look at large companies, their lifespans tend to be 30-plus years, not a hundred...

If it's Blockchain technology, I'm already on it. Invest in RIOT stock to buy the dip on Monday. It's doubled in value since I bought it. There are some rumblings about G6 technology, too.
But never mind all that. If he's manipulating his stock to make money shorting it by making alarming statements about it, or provoking a panic by selling huge blocks with the same goal in mind, that is seriously illegal. I'd like to see him hung anyway, but I'll settle for a perp walk in the hands of the feds.

Elon Musk does the same thing. No one cares as long as they get theirs.

Elon Musk is hopping the next freight train to Mars. Bezos, however, is public enemy number...uh...whatever. I lost count. The Shmuck belongs behind bars.
A company I used to work for used to bad-mouth their financial situation every four years or so. Funny, but it was always right before contract negotiation time.
I wonder if Bezos is trying the same sort of thing. “Don’t ask for more money, guys. We’re on the road to bankruptcy as it is.”
Bezos? Yeah. Sure makes you want to be a wage slave in one of his warehouses, doesn’t it.
He’s right. Sears failed. Many many large businesses had a limited life span.
I expect Walmart to fail once we ween ourselves from China. The only thing to stop this failure is if Walmart starts looking for US made products right now.
If war breaks out with China, many Walmarts will close their doors overnight.
They need to hold on until i get my cheap Chinese junk I ordered.
He’s just being honest. Eventually all businesses fail. There’s a meme out there about the companies with logos in the movies 2001 and how few of them existed, or existed as powerfully as they were then, by the actual year. Remember when jeans were Levy’s? Copy machines were Xerox? Department stores were Sears? All companies eventually stack up enough poor decisions and hungry competition to go down.

They aren’t the only ones. I remember working at Winn Dixie behind the deli counter (kosher) and buying their cheap apple juice for my kid, until I noticed it was made in China. WTF. America has apples, dammit. Winn Dixie is dead and gone, thanks to Walmart. I will not mourn Walmart’s passing, either. There’ll always be another big box store to employ people cheap, hopefully one that isn’t bound heart and soul to those soulless, commie, disease-spreading, Galapagos Islands menacing, Uiger-persecuting, slave-driving, lying bass-turds.
Maybe but what he says is true. The free enterprise system is such that companies have their ups and downs, and leaders are eventually replaced by upstarts that do things better, cheaper, etc. There are some big companies that trace their founding to the 19th century (e.g., DuPont, the Standard Oil spinoffs like Exxon & Chevron, G.E., AT&T/Verizon as descendants of the original AT&T, etc.), but for every one of those, there are 100s of firms that have collapsed. Think of all the dominant retailers of just 40-50 years ago that are dead or dying (Sears, Montgomery Ward, JC Penney, Woolworth)... replaced by WalMart, Target, Amazon.
Honestly manipulating stock in his company? He’s paid to further the interests of the stock holders, not short his own stock. Of course all companies fail eventually, but crooks who are in the upper echelons are not allowed to see to the company’s failure in order to enrich themselves.
