I just started using Duck Duck Go. Political searches, such as finding the Navarro Report, is made purposely difficult by Go@gle/Bang because the Big Media / Big Tech partnership is out to destroy President Trump.

DDG took me right to the Navarro Report and cut down the biased filter preventing me from finding it.

I am also impressed that DDG keeps the good business search of the other engines.

If you have a small industry information business and you depend on search engines to draw people to your site (without paying them), it nice to know that DDG preserves the good aspects of what Bang and Go@gle do in filtering out irrelevant sites from those with solid, authoritative information.

Pleasantly surprised that DDG put my site at a high position for a new research report I just published. In fact, DDG has my site higher in its search than others probably because the other engines are getting greater advertising dollars. So this gives me hope that DDG is on the road to becoming a full fledged quality search engine.

I run NordVPN in a terminal using openvpn. I like being able to see what’s going on “under the hood”.

VPN and Duckduckgo search engine works about as well as anything. Tor isn’t as secure as some people might think but it is better than a mainstream browser for security. I don’t think anything is secure anymore. If you’re online you’re exposed.

It is the cookie files you have to delete. You search on say cameras and soon you have ads for cameras everywhere you go.
https://www.allaboutcookies.org/manage-cookies/clear-cookies-installed.html

It is not the only way you are tracked. You talk on the cell phone and you will see ads show up on your computer web browser and if you have Windows 10 then the ads microsoft display show up in the start menu. All based on what is overheard.

If you have a smart tv with a camera and microphone you will see ads show up about what you are talking about on your tv. Those devices from Amazon with Alexa tied in do definitely listen in. The police will ask amazon for the recordings! when investigating any crime and probably the gov’t has a direct pipeline into all the spy devices.

I use Chrome principally because I surf and visit a number of pages /sites, repeatedly, over the course of a day and Chrome provides a google feature that I can store at least 8 images and in the "new page" page, click an icon/link.

Does DDG haver the same type of feature?

It's real handy for old people who's hands and fingers make more mistakes than not

"i do run a VPN on my windows os- but not on my linux one- not sure how on linux"

Some VPNs provide clients for Linux, but there are various ways to configure Linux to work with VPNs without the clients provided by VPNs (Network Manager, command line interface in a terminal, etc.). Use a search engine to find tutorials, wikis and the like. If you want to use Wireguard instead of OpenVPN, though, you'll need a new enough Linux kernel. OpenVPN works fast enough, if you're not trying to install and use it in a tiny router with a slow CPU.

I began using DuckDuckGo in about the early 2000a IIRC. For my professional work, it had then and has now very effective and a wide range power in ferreting out technical and business information. Consumer and personal interest information is also effectively located.

My first experiences were with Google. Tracking issues were not on my mind at that time but I increasingly became irritated at having to dig through a mountain of useless links, especially when it became obvious to me I was having to sift out paid for links that were top of the list.

Dogpile was the first search engine that I gave a trial and
It became my go-to for a year or two. Then I gave DuckDuckGo a test run when it hit the net. Excellent performance and excellent privacy policy

Every new mobile device or computer I get, the first setup I do is to set DuckDuckGo as the default search engine and for computers, use DuckDuckGo as the homepage.

TAILS... Completely stand alone and isolated on it’s own stick with TOR included. Made by the same crew as TOR.

https://tails.boum.org/

Folks shy away from the word “TOR”. But TOR is excellent as a general browser too. You do not have to go to .onion links in the dark web, it can be used just like any other browser for indexed sites.

The instructions are on Nords website but it’s simple once you get the files unpacked into /etc/openvpn. I’ve tried front ends through networking but they make way too much work out of something so simple.

I’m just the opposite. I’ve been using Linux for over 20 yrs and it was easy peasy until all the _untu idiots started screwing with it.

Good to hear these comments, Hootowl. Let’s hope DuckDuckGo is here to stay!

Slowly but surely the Big Tech companies are attracting meaningful competition. One day, Google’s search engine will have to become a cash cow — maybe it even is today.

All of them want to become e-commerce-to-brick-and-mortar players like Amazon is becoming. One of benefits of large corporations is they become attractive companies for the Tech companies to sell to because big, all-encompassing deals can be worked out.

Small business accounts are not so easy to attract for these digital players.

Lol, I tried it about 20 years ago and wow, nope not for my feeble brain. Had a heck of a time trying to get things like printer, scanner. Camera etc to work with it. Unfortunately I got into computers way late in life, so like they say, an its true, its rd to teach old dog new tricks. I have picked up some on it, but the tired mind doesn’t hang onto the info though so gotta keep relearning it everytime a problem arises
