This day in history in 1984 something happened that started a chain of events that culminated in a decision I speculate would never happen today.
It was big news in the the big apple and all across the country. On December 22, 1984, Bernhard Goetz shot and wounded four young black men on a New York City subway train, saying they were about to rob him. The four teens were Barry Allen, Troy Canty, Darrell Cabey, and James Ramseur, all shot and wounded by Goetz after they accosted him on a New York City Subway train in Manhattan.
Goetz was charged with attempted murder, assault, reckless endangerment and several firearms offenses
Goetz stood trial and confessed to the preemptive shooting, leaving one of the victims, Darrell Cabey, paralyzed and brain damaged, but a jury acquitted Goetz despite his confession, finding him guilty only of illegal weapons possession.
Would that happen in today's racial climate?
No one need speculate, New York would be burned to the ground, de Blasio would be there with a torch leading the riots.
Bernard Goetz's house would be burned to the ground
Gov. Cuomo would jump in front of a microphone and blame white supremacy.
36 years ago yesterday.
John Lott says, “More guns Less crime “
I say if we had more Bernard Goetz we wouldn’t have the crime problems we have now.
DeBlasio is a POS.
He is so far up his wife’s nasty butt and is going to make America pay for past sins by destroying one of the greatest cities in the world.
Goetz is an American hero.
There was a pop machine in the laundry room of an apartment complex that had a bumper sticker stating : “Bernard Goetz, American Hero”
Sadly the jury was less wise than they should have been, ...
they should have acquitted Goetz on ALL charges and lectured the cops for not returning his firearm to him.
Those jurors will be sacrificed to the Marxist Prog BLM pets if they are unwise enough to be still living in New York today.
After the shooting, the level of crime was much lower for several months, as I recall.
My favorite Goetz line was “You don’t look so bad...” BAM
Bernard Goetz has been inducted into the Charles Bronson Hall of Fame as a lifetime member.
“Goetz them before they Goetz you.”
Barry? Troy? Darrell? James? A different world.
I’m partial to “I have $5 for each of you.” Bam! Bam! Bam! Bam!
He left out the 4 (.45) so it would be a surprise.
Bernie Goetz was acquitted by a jury. It was the corrupt anti-Constitutional rights prosecutor who pushed for charges.
Politicians and government workers, including police brass, in mass transit served areas need to be forced to use the same mass transit they suffer on the tax paying victims.
(FRmail me to be added or removed from my irregular ping list)
The black community wanted Goetz to walk. That was the scuttlebutt and I never found out what their reasoning was.
Nope.
Heard of Austin Weekes?
Not only did he feel threatened, he killed one of the adversaries. Got off, no jail time.
I signed his petition for mayor in 2001 at the FR protest in front of the UN.
Vigilante justice?
