Killing the original bill with a clean bill that sends 2k to Americans would cut the cost by 300b and would be a win for America. I doubt there would be such a clean bill

Republicans repeatedly refused to say what amount the President wanted for direct checks. At last, the President has agreed to $2,000 — Democrats are ready to bring this to the Floor this week by unanimous consent. Let’s do it!
She wanted $2,000 checks all along. She didn’t cave to Trump
She wanted a lot of pork and add one all along. Now it’s reported she won’t do that. And this is not caving to Mitch because he wants little or nothing for individuals. Even $600 stuck in his craw. In fact, the $2k puts Mitch and the Senate GOP on the spot. They want to give money to lobbyists, but they’re going to have to vote on a clean Bill that doesn’t do that

That was never true. Just last week Johnson shot down unanimous consent for payments that were less than that. The “fiscal conservatives” in the GOP senate caucus have opposed stimulus checks all along. Mitch even said so publicly
They only want to spend money on the military industrial complex and nation-building wars. On those items, the sky is the limit and Mitch never complains about the cost
