Lt. Col. Christopher Ophardt, spokesman for the academy at West Point, said Monday that 73 cadets were accused of cheating on the calculus exam in May after instructors noticed irregularities in answers. All but one were freshmen, or plebes, in a class of 1,200. The other was a sophomore.
After an investigation by an honors committee made up of trained cadets, two cases were dropped for lack of evidence and four were dropped because the cadets resigned, Ophardt said. Of the remaining 67 cases, 55 cadets have admitted cheating and have been enrolled in a six-month rehabilitation program focused on ethics. They will be on probation for the rest of their time at the academy. Three more cadets admitted cheating but weren't eligible for the rehabilitation program.
The remaining cadets accused of cheating face administrative hearings to determine if they've violated the honor code and recommend penalties, which could include expulsion.

Really? Just a rehabilitation program? Why even bother? Just make them write “I will probably not cheat anymore.” 50 times on a sheet of paper.

Oh FFS, if you don’t know cheating is wrong by the time you’re in college WTF is a “program” going to do? It’s like the annual sexual harassment training they force everyone in the military to sit through.
This is a reflection of modern US culture. You’re going to see more and more amoral shitbags enter the officer corps, and there’s not much you can do about it because we’re past the point of no return. The upshot for leftist politicians is it’ll be a lot easier to put down protests to whatever their latest outrage is.

Agreed, everything is downstream from culture. We’re witnessing what happens in all aspect of life when secular culture has taken over our society.
How many Football players?
On one hand, they’re 18-19 year old kids. A 19 year old enlisted man would get an article 15, do the corrective training and you move on with your mission. That your may be ruined, but if you want to make a career, for the most part you just had a setback.
On the other hand, they are a group of over fifty cadets who were given a golden opportunity that many other candidates and they pissed it away in their very first year. That’s a failure of leadership, it’s a failure of integrity, and that list of names is going to get out. Imagine any one of them trying to lead a platoon or heaven forbid one of them reaches company command. I don’t know how you justify the decision not to expel.
why not expulsion rather than a second chance for those found cheating? Is this what we want our military leaders to ne?
