In fact, I’d go so far as to claim that turnips, when mashed, are better than their potato counterparts, and a far more interesting vehicle for gravy. Cooked turnips are firm yet velvety, slightly nutty, and bring a bit more oomph to your holiday spread. But, full disclosure, my not all of my turnip-eating Christmases have been merry.

Is that what prebiotic are? They just make you fart. I’ve never really had a problem with that. 😀

I have made mashed turnips. While fine, they are not better than mashed potatoes in the taste department.

Personally, I like to make mashed potatoes with red potatoes that have not been peeled.

I love rutabagas but there is a big difference between a turnip and rutabaga. The turnip has no starch, more like a radish. Rutabagas is
more like a potato.

It's just as well: Turnips are good at producing kidney stones.

I’ll take rutabagas over turnips any day. Especially good in long-cooking stews because they don’t fall apart.

The Scots serve them together, call them “neeps & tatties” (turnips and potatoes).
