Coronavirus: Woman expected to die opens eyes after family pulls the plug

Doctors told Nichole Brewer that her mother, Rhonda Withem, would not be able to breathe again on her own after suffering complications from the coronavirus, KTHV reported.

Withem, who tested positive for the virus on Nov. 7, initially quarantined while she monitored her symptoms. As they continued to worsen, she was eventually admitted to the intensive care unit at Saline Memorial Hospital.

For two weeks, she remained in the ICU on a ventilator. Doctors told Brewer her mother had been unresponsive during attempts to remove her from the ventilator.

“The doctors said it would just be hours once they took everything off,” Brewer told the news station.

But before long, Withem opened her eyes and looked around the room. Brewer said she even attempted to smile and wave at her daughters.

Withem is undergoing rehabilitation through next week to regain her strength, and her daughter has a message for those who might be going through a similar situation: “Don’t give up on your faith or your hope.”

D3 is really the key. Everyone visiting their doctor for annual labs should demand a test of D levels. (Not usually included in standard blood tests for glucose, A1C, TSH, cholesterol, etc.) You really want your D levels between 40-60 and it's harder to accomplish than most people realize. I had mine checked last June and I was taking 8,000 iu of D3 daily for over a year. My D level was 46, which surprised me (I was shooting for 55-60.) So I have since upped intake to 10,000 iu daily and will test again in January. Five years ago, my D was tested at 18 and I was coming down with every cold, flu and sinus infection that I came in contact with. Anything below 25 is going to be an immunity issue.

You can also request that your Zinc levels be tested. Mine were shockingly low last June (.01), so my doc immediately put me on a Zinc supplement.

I've been an advocate for D supplementation for years now and had convinced my mother to start taking additional D. Her last levels were around 35. She recently learned that she had come into contact with several other people (her bridge group and brunch buddies) who had tested positive for C19. She's elderly and highly at risk, yet when she was tested (after being in contact with these friends repeatedly), she came up negative, thank God. Not sure if the D sups had anything to do with it, but it sure is strange that 4 out of 5 of her friends all tested positive and she and one other person were negative. I'd like to know if she has antibodies.

That’s the part that makes me angry. “Stay home til you are sick enough for ICU. We can’t risk treating you before that! “ AaaaaaHhhhhhhh. Insane!

"Ironically none were prescribed anything by this doctors."

I'm going to read between the lines here; tell me if I'm close. The irony is the doctors (who get paid to provide health care prescribed nothing ... which for a patient failing to thrive is a death sentence and they know it. My guess is the patients took control of their own healthcare and prescribed supplements to themselves (like quercetin, zinc, D3, high dose C, melatonin, veterinary ivermectin, etc) and recovered without doctor assistance, which compounds the irony.

I take vit D2 every Saturday as medication, not a supplement. Would I still have to worry about my arteries getting clogged if I don’t take anything to metabolize it?

I’m 35 if it matters, but am on cholesterol medication because bad diet.

Some people read the obituaries to find out which of their friends have passed. Democrats read the obituaries to claim new votes.

Just my opinion, but I think it is a safe bet to assume that supplementing with D3 had a great deal to do with her dodging that bullet. Well done for getting her on that!

Yup.
Dem ballot harvesting of dead people. Beats the Chinese harvesting body parts of executed prisoners any day.

We just had a close friend die from it. Needlessly. Had they been given ivermectin early, they very likely would be alive today. Politicians are responsible for a vast majority of deaths from. This fairly treatable virus simply because they hate Trump. What reprehensible evil scum they are

My wife has a friend that was very weak from the virus and could not eat anything for about a week without having nausea or gastrointestinal problems. It’s very strange how this virus can affect different people in different ways.

I dont think you mean medical malpractice. Some states (not mine) threatens a physicians license for prescribing these exact drugs. Please do not add another layer of malpractice that does not exist.

2 local couples sent by home with nothing. Told to just keep eye on their condition and call if they got worse. One couple got worse alright, so fast they were too ill to make rational decisions. Luckily family member saw them called,p and got em to hospital. Now they are fighting for their life

Other couple is plenty sick from. What were hearing, but still home. They are elderly too.

My guess is if patients try to use nonprescription drugs to counter a bad disease they will end up in the morgue.

HCQ was ok early, probably is an ok prophylaxis but is an awful therapeutic. Ivermectin is superior, and can turn around late disease, but is not perfect

I do not think that remdesivir does a damn thing, and convalescent plasma is pretty useless. Decadron does help a lot, and I would love to see what regeneron does. Cannot access it thus far.

The best thing as for any virus — prevention. And the vaccine does that. I dont think it should be forced, but it is a viable and good prevention to accelerate herd immunity.

Nothing new under the sun here.

Arterial calcification is a very bad deal. When in the heart, it leads to things like valve replacement surgery. So there is a very real incentive to err on the side of caution.

Give this article a read and you'll find that vitamin K2 supplements generally improve bone and heart health : https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5494092/.

Personally I would not supplement long term with a D vitamin without also supplementing long term with a K2 vitamin (specifically K2). Every body is different and you have to find what works for you. At thirty-five you have plenty of time to fix that diet and recover. (Look into red yeast rice as well for that cholesterol.) Make a ten-year plan! Good luck, FRiend!

Perhaps malfeasance is a better noun? Supplements like quercetin, zinc, melatonin, vitamin c, vitamin d3, etc, do not require prescription. Any knowledgeable health care professional is aware of them -- or at least should be if they are at all competent. Harm is being caused by medical incompetence (or greed, or whatever) with damage inclusive of death. My point is that it is a sad state of affairs when our healthcare professionals have failed us so miserably over such basic knowledge.

They, I mean we did.

I think it is a total, last ditch effort, whereas earlier we put them on a vent much earlier.

Last year the PA told me to cut back on the D3, as my reading of 94 was too high for her.

I ignored her.

I also take Koncentrated K, Super B, Magnesium, and Potassium.

Nearly three years a carnivore, after learning I was prediabetic. “Proper Human Diet” according to Dr. Ken Berry.
