Possible government shutdown?
twitter ^ | Dec 18 | Chad Pergram

@ChadPergram

1) Fox is told it’s possible the House will likely try to approve via unanimous consent (meaning no member objects) a short-term spending bill to avert a government shutdown later tonight.

2) If that’s not possible, the House will likely call a vote on the short-term spending measure. They’ll have to treat it as a “suspension” bill. That means they can get the measure to the floor quickly, but it requires a two-thirds vote to pass.

3) And then things are up to the Senate. That could take a while...if there is no deal to speed things up just to fund the government.

4) There is a LOT of grousing right now among members and staff about the lack of information.

But, it’s very possible we could be barreling into a government shutdown – even a short one, in the middle of a pandemic.

If Standard Operating Procedure was that government salaries would not be paid for days missed during a shutdown, then the shutdown might actually save us some money to offset the huge COVID outlays.

But SOP is not, so any savings will be undermined as soon as the government opens back up.

Not too long ago, the commies were demanding to “burn it all to the ground”.

I say give them a taste of it, especially in the big urban cities. Burn it to the ground and let them starve.

Likely “lack of information” about what provisions are being slipped in.

If Trump doesn’t prevail, I’d love to see the gov’t shutdown for 4 years.

Anything to stop another $1,200 going directly to the American people.

They actually need it.

Actually, Congress should have had their pay cut during the Rona Pandemic. Why should they continue to be paid when millions of American people are going through hardships, losing their jobs, and businesses. It’s our money, they thrive while we struggle, as usual. Plus, God only knows what deals they are cutting in the back rooms to make even more money because Of the virus.

Most of the government is funded on recurring expenditures. These “shutdowns” are a show.

When both sides say they want something, that’s when it’s always the hardest to get anything done about it.

I’d like to see their pay stopped until they do what the constitution says they are required to do. Produce a budget. These continuing resolutions are mere theft.

Federal employees never lose a dime...They get paid when they go back to work——full pay.

I don't understand why they do get paid after. That makes it an easy paid vacation, PLUS all these restaurants and places feel sorry for the parasites and give them free food and crap because of mean ole Trump. The ONLY time employees who don't work during the shutdown should get paid is if they use up their PTO.

Also, every single CongressCritter should have their pay zeroed for every day there's Federal employees not getting paid due to their inaction.

ALL those advocating for closings have been receiving guaranteed income without missing a beat. The shutdown should happen and it should go on for 9 months. Or until the government sanctioned business destruction ends.
