A surrealist painting worth more than a quarter million dollars that was forgotten by a businessman at Duesseldorf’s airport has been recovered from a nearby recycling dumpster, police said Thursday.

The businessman, whose identity was not given, accidentally left behind the painting by French surrealist Yves Tanguy at a check-in counter as he boarded a flight from Duesseldorf to Tel Aviv on Nov. 27.

By the time he landed in Israel and contacted Duesseldorf police, the 340,000-dollar oeuvre, which had been wrapped in cardboard, had disappeared.

....dumpster used by the airport’s cleaning company.

I can see why the cleaning staff put it in the dumpster.

I have to wonder what else could have been on his mind to forget his $340,000 painting.

There are some paintings valued at 100 times that number that belong in the garbage!

It was stolen since it was not abandoned.

“left behind”.

I almost missed a flight once because on over eager cleaning crew picked up some carry on items I had sitting on a seat next to mine in the waiting area.

And they weren’t just 100 feet away. Nope. I had to walk all the way out of the secured area to collect what they had taken from me without asking.

It was not put in re-cycling bin to be trashed, it was put in there for later pickup by airport employee stealing it.

Some found paintings would be tempting to keep; this isn’t one of them. Would gladly auction it off ASAP.

You are mistaken. The painting, “Western Civilization, 2020” is a masterpiece of allegorical realism.

I wouldn’t buy it for a $1.00 at a yard sale.

He treated Paulie like the weasel he could be at times.

Like when he went and met Johnny behind Tony’s back and squealed stuff like a sucker.
