The head of the Texas Republican Party floated the threat of seceding from the U.S. in a tantrum over the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to bounce a baseless Texas election lawsuit.
On Friday, the court rejected Texas’ attempt to challenge votes from the battleground states of Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania that voted for President-elect Joe Biden instead of Donald Trump.
Texas GOP Chair Allen West said in a statement following the news that “perhaps” it’s time for “law-abiding states to bond together and form a Union of states that will abide by the constitution.”

Start with nullification. Fed.gov wants to take away guns? Just say “not here.”
Perfect first step. They had absolutely no fear of anything when they were doing the same to the President about illegals. And if the states had some really ballsy Sheriffs, it’d be a no brainer and easy thing to do.
Be like that Sheriff in Virginia who said he would deputize everyone in town that he could.
Yes
Yes
Yes
Why not?
Liberals live in their safe spaces. We all get to live in ours.
Donny Deutch called 50 million Trump supporters idiots and worse, the other day. He is a good representative of how the Left thinks of us. I, and we, cannot live with them. Compromise is gone.
Why?
I have a friend that lives in the City of Decatur, Ga. Very liberal. He and his wife are not.
He flies an American flag outside his home every day. His neighbor has told him it makes him sick and that he should take it down.
The Left and Right cannot coexist in the same space anymore.
Let the Left have their real estate and show us all how it’s done. Let the Right, all us deplorables, all us rural noobs that Brooks said we are, have ours.
Could it work? Trump calls for an independent Quebec. What will western Canada do?
Why would he do that? One of the things I like about Trump is he didn't get us entangled in foreign affairs. We need to put America first, not stir up trouble in Canada.
That is another way to deal with it, but at least take a good serious shot cross their bows with this first.
Secession doesn't have to involve violence, civil war, or even "taking a shot across the blue states' bows". Just walk away. Red states are tired of the blue states and vice versa. A nation of 330 million people is simply too large to be governable. China and India only manage it through far more authoritarian rule than most Americans would be willing to tolerate.
Yep, and GA is our real estate and the carpetbaggers need to get the hell out. Having our own pro-liberty, pro-God, pro-Capitalist country is the only way to stop the constant invasion and destruction of our states by the leftists. GA, AZ, and NC are already on the brink of going the way of VA, CO, NM, NH, etc.
Besides, isn’t it easier for Texas to do this because of the succession clause in their state constitution? They literally could do this perhaps paving the way for other states to succeed, even parts of states breaking away as in northern California and southern Oregon.
“Texas declared independence from Mexico in 1836 and spent the next nine years as its own nation. While the young country’s leaders first expressed interest in becoming a state in 1836, the Republic of Texas did not join the United States until 1845, when Congress approved the Joint Resolution for Annexing Texas to the United States.
This resolution, which stipulated that Texas could, in the future, choose to divide itself into “New States of convenient size not exceeding four in number, in addition to said State of Texas” is often a cause of confusion about the state’s ability to secede. But the language of the resolution is clear: Texas can split itself into five new states. It says nothing of splitting apart from the United States.”
Rejoice!
You misunderstand.
Its simple. A shot across the bow is getting state legislatures to file articles of secession. That is the shot across the bow.
Stand back and see how they swallow that and then go from there.
If the fume and spit and howl, then give them a list of demands that are basically unreasonable and when they dont agree, its done. They are on their own.
Yep, multi- state nullification.
IMHO - Obama’s purposeful stoking of racial conflict in cities over “police brutality,” if you watched the upshot, was to promote much stronger management/control of local police via “civil rights” actions and directives from the DOJ
“Defund the Police” is another pawn in this game. As you can imagine, there is no leftist/Democrat call to “defund” any Federal police or intelligence agencies, of which there are dozens.
The goal is to control, if not outright federalize police. Then the potential for local cities, counties, states to declare non-enforcement of statist/Fed.gov edicts become steadily reduced.
“ One of the reasons the Dem’s would be scared sh*tless of this, if the Southeast-Midwest and Mountain stats, seceded, that’s where all the food and oil are. The Left would be helpless.”
Thank you! I have been trying argue that very point all day with liberals and all they say is we would not survive without the blue states tax revenue. I tried telling them the have negative revenue and if we go we take livestock, the grain belt, the Colorado river which is where SoCal gets it water, the oil to include underground reserves, and we already have most industry thanks to Trump. All they had left was Silicon Valley and the entertainment industry and they are on their way out too. I was sickened by the libs ignorance and man are they hateful. I’m glad there are others who understand that Blue States, mostly just isolated enclaves really, would be devastated.
I really doubt anyone here seriously wants to see a Civil War. But we can’t ignore the situation. The anger over the way our President was treated for four years, an obvious stolen election, and a media hell bent on literally killing or locking up Christians and conservatives for supporting our legally elected President has created a very dangerous and volatile powder keg of fury that could be ignited very easily. So many of us are tired of putting up with the likes of Antifa, BLM, the Cancel Culture, and media bias. There will probably be a Antifa or BLM riot (mostly peaceful naturally) and someone like Proud Boys or Bikers for Trump will get shot and that will be the start of CWII with no chance of putting it back in the keg. It will be a free for all and it won’t end until both sides are devastated. Loss of life on both sides will make it hard to say anyone was the winner. I hope it does not come to this but I fear the left will continue to push conservatives up against the wall until it does. Then God help us all.
The Texas grid appears to be something less 100% freestanding. There appear to be 1 connection via Oklahoma and 2 connections to Louisiana that connect to the national grid. There's one connection into New Mexico that's probably an extension of the Permian Basin but didn't appear connected to the national grid. The region represented by El Paso appears to wholly on the national grid and not to the Texas Grid. The far west counties of the panhandle may also be totally on the national grid via New Mexico and not the Texas grid.
Bottom line though, connection wise it appears Texas could be fully independent with a few switch flips. Caveat though is that I have no idea if Texas has sufficient generation supply to fulfill demand. I bet they do but am not positive. I know that in the 1980s we had a 1500MW cogen power plant trip offline when it caught on fire. The Texas grid absorbed the loss without skipping a beat.
Since Texas would keep fracking going full speed, and also having large reserves of coal, I think they would not only be self sufficient in power, but able to make a lot of money selling to the USA which will be crippled by the UN carbon crusade.
Coal is a non-factor as a short term source for anything much more than a coal burning stove. There are significant lignite reserves in NE Texas but production was stopped when power plants were switched from coal to natural gas. This started in the 1980s. The strategy was to construct a coal fired power plant in the middle of a lignite deposit then strip mine around the plant and haul lignite overland to the plant. After strip mining, the restored land was absolutely beautiful with rolling hills, grasses and trees. Cow paradise. When the lignite hauling distance became too great based on economics, the power plant was decommissioned and demolished. The lignite in Texas is pretty dirty with high amounts of sulfur and the flue gas scrubbing technology back in the day was a nightmare to operate.
The first pilot plant I operated washed lignite to remove free dirt, which is where most of the sulfur is tied up. After blowing through a million $$$ of equipment destroying it, I learned the value of heavy and expensive industrial grade equipment instead of lesser equipment made to a low price point. Glad I wasn't the person that specified the cheap stuff. This is called learning from someone else’s mistakes instead of your own.
Interesting stuff...thanks.
I’ve read that China is building 100s of coal fired gen plants because they don’t really give a sh*t about air quality or fake globull warming and they want to transition to electric cars because they don’t have much oil.
So there may be plenty of oil for the rest of us.
The goal is to negate all local and state control. Look at the school systems. Department of Education in DC has sway over local school districts.
