The re-enactment of the Battle of Olustee was always a favorite scouting weekend when we lived in Jacksonville.
Why are there Public holidays honoring Jefferson Davis? He was a traitor (and lost)
Please remember that the south was given total amnesty and we started to bind the wounds between the north and south.
Why this generation insists on alienating the south is beyond me. It's just plain stupid.
I’m curious when and who instigated these “holidays”?
My guess is Democrats. Way after the war was over.

I’m not sure Jefferson Davis was.
Are there black people who are unable to function emotionally at the sight of a Confederate statue?

The only way these liberals get attention is to attack the CSA flag and conservatives in general.

Exactly. I have no doubt it was FL RATS who created a holiday "honoring" Jefferson Davis in the first place (which they now want to blame Republicans for, I'm sure)
The GOP should have introduced their OWN bill to abolish "Jefferson Davis' Birthday" as a state holiday in FL long ago, so the RATS can't take credit for it.
Replace it with Bob Ross Day. A rare example of a lifelong Floridian:
“The forbearing use of power does not only form a touchstone, but the manner in which an individual enjoys certain advantages over others is a test of a true gentleman.
The power which the strong have over the weak, the employer over the employed, the educated over the unlettered, the experienced over the confiding, even the clever over the silly—the forbearing or inoffensive use of all this power or authority, or a total abstinence from it when the case admits it, will show the gentleman in a plain light
The gentleman does not needlessly and unnecessarily remind an offender of a wrong he may have committed against him. He cannot only forgive, he can forget; and he strives for that nobleness of self and mildness of character which impart sufficient strength to let the past be.”
~Robert E. Lee

Yes. A huge scam. Democrats put in all the racist Jim Crow big government laws then use it to cry institutional racism and get votes.

eff these dems.President Davis,General Lee and Confederate Memorial Day should be on every calendar. Those who don’t want to celebrate them don’t have to. I don’t celebrate every holiday that’s on the calendar but i don’t whine about them being there!
We are being called traitors now. See any similarities?
Well to my knowledge none of us have actively started a hot civil war so that we could retain the right to own other human beings. So no. I don’t see similarities
Confederate Memorial Day is mostly in April.
Davis was born in June.
Lee was born late January. (Also the day TX/FL celebrate Memorial Day)
So why, exactly, did this topic come up all of a sudden?
just information.
