The Catholic church, being Latin in tradition, sees ‘lucifer’ as merely a common nown, ‘light bringer’. The altar boy/girls who bring the candelabrums down the aisle are called lucifers as well, like the one that carries the cross is the crucifer. So, they probably thought it was cute, since a telescope does bring in light.

Sadly, there a many like them (white and black) in churches across America. These women and men sing in the choir, invite the pastor and his wife over to dinner, are servers at church dinners, volunteer to help with food pantry, and have no qualms about selling out America by excelling in election fraud. They hate President Trump.
