There’s another global disaster we also need to try to prevent: climate change.
We have only some of the tools we need to eliminate the world’s greenhouse gases.
We need breakthroughs in the way we generate and store clean electricity, grow food, make things, move around, and heat and cool our buildings, so we can do all these things without adding more greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. We need to revolutionize the world’s physical economy—and that will take, among other things, a dramatic infusion of ingenuity, funding, and focus from the federal government. No one else has the resources to drive the research we need.

“Or do we want to eliminate oxygen too?”
Yes - that’s the real reason for the masks, TEagle.
Deprive billions of nutrition and oxygen, then deny them decent (if any) health care.
Viola! The bill and melinda gates’ wet dream of depopulation is realized.
Awwwww....look at Bill, trying to bring us to Socialism through yet another Nationalized, unelected agency. Bet he even weaves in a regulation for the “National Institute of Energy Innovation” to install population control. Daddy would be so proud.
350 years of recoverable coal in North America.
Now, if a way could be found to liberate its energy without polluting...
Even if you accept the truth of the first part of that statement (I don't), the last part clearly doesn't follow. The LAST place you will find 'ingenuity and focus' is in the federal government. The very traits that lead to success in government leadership - politics, cronyism, and smooth talking (lying and deceit), lead directly to failures in 'ingenuity and focus'. Governments fail most often when the task requires sustained 'ingenuity and focus'. War is about the only example you can give contrary to that statement, and that's only if you count as success, the deaths of large numbers of those in your military
If you really think you can live properly using only solar power and batteries to drive, heat, cool, and power your home, and to earn a living, you need some serious re-education about energy production and use.
Sorry not a mine reader here.
we’re about done with “national institutes” of anything-at least so I hope
Nice, long, considerate post. Thanks.
Makes me think that Congress is only concerned that we have to make interest payments on the debt. Talk about short-sighted and sophomoric.
This from someone that okayed Windows 10
Greenhouse gases = atmosphere that stops harmful radiation from frying us.
AT 150 PPM, plant growth is sparse to non-existent. AT 180 we were close to a tipping point was my point.
Close does not count - just sounds way dramatic unnecessarily, since there was no real problem, unless you imagine the so-called man-made climate change is near the tipping point to becoming Venus.
Well put.
