That cup of coffee was me yesterday - I took one out with me when I went to work on the garden. I've spent the last 3 days outside until sunset, but yesterday was the earliest start. The project was to get my 4 new raised beds filled with dirt befor the 'big rain' hit last evening. As of this morning, we have almost 2" in the rain gauge ... and the ground was super soggy before the rain.

Anyway, it was too wet to use the tractor to get the dirt, so I shoveled every bit of it - the 4 beds are 3'x 6' x 12" deep. That's a lot of dirt when you have to shovel it. Wednesday, I raked leaves, filled the beds with leaves, watered/compacted & hauled enough dirt to cover all the leaves by about an inch. Thurs/Fri were the days when I was hauling the big loads of dirt.

I also had to figure a way to keep the "critters" out of my beds - they are digging them up. The major digger is my canine buddy from next door - almost blind/deaf, but he can still smell a mole .... his holes are the size of craters. I also think I have a skunk or two - much smaller holes. There were even fresh deer tracks in one older bed. Using my fencing that keeps the crows out of the tomatoes/veggies, I just laid panels across the beds & used some re-purposed fence boards on the ends where the fencing didn't quite cover everything. So far so good - haven't found any critters thrashing around stuck in the netting the last two nights.

Two flower beds in the hummingbird garden left to weed and then I'm ready for winter ... can't wait for Spring planting time. We may get some snow Monday.
