ICE CREAM CHEESE / from the kitchen of socialite Consuelo Crespi
Cool, frosty nights and warm, sunny days here in Central Missouri over the past week.
Didn’t do anything in the garden over the weekend. Still busy getting the place ready for winter. Cut and hauled three loader buckets full of stove wood yesterday.
Needed a handful of fasteners for a project, so we ran to Lowe’s on Saturday. I noticed that they have already set up their spring garden seed display. Seems a bit early for that, but maybe they know something that rest of us don’t?
Greetings from southern New Hampshire where “winter” has arrived a little too early for my tastes. But, our garlic beds are mulched with straw and the soil has been amended and fertilized.
As I stated before, we have decided to bring our 5th Wheel RV home and given up on the seasonal activity. In addition to the expenses involved, we discovered last year that we would rather vacation in our garden and home.
I developed an operations plan for moving our RV and clearing our site. The Good Lord supported it and after two-days up there, I was able to prepare the RV for hauling, emptied and disassembled our shed and one deck box and loaded our box trailer, and on Friday morning, while waiting for the hauler, I disassembled our screen room platform and loaded it all on the flatbed I brought up that morning. The hauler arrived on time, hooked up our rig while I hooked up the box trailer, and then he helped me load the two sections of the shed platform on the flatbed.
When we got home, the site I prepared was just right and the RV is in place and the box trailer is located where the shed will be reassembled. On Saturday, with rain that was forecast to turn to snow, I drove up to the site, loaded our kayaks, a two-wheeled dolly and step ladder and drove home into the snow storm. Got home safely, dropped the trailer and stood down for three days. Today, I hope to unload the platform components and free the flatbed for another site cleaning visit, if the snow allows.
Bottom line, we are going to focus on gardening, this next season. This winter, I will spend cleaning and organizing my wood shop. Life is good...very good!
