My Dad dreamed all of his life about one day owning a Cadillac. He finally bought one in his 70s. Turned out to be a glorified Chevy, constantly beset by steering problems, A/C problems, and faulty sensors. I said “Dad, a car that expensive should not require such frequent repairs.” He would just shrug.
In my Dad’s day owning a Cadillac meant you had arrived. Sadly, today it’s just another car and mostly unremarkable.
My grandmother gave me her old purple Cadillac when I went off to college.
I had to park it in the “hood”, and nobody ever touched it for four years even though many of my friends had their cars broken into and vandalized on a routine basis.
I finally had the nerve to ask one of the locals what the deal was and he explained “They think you are a pimp.”

Same here. My dad had a 1994 DeVille Concours with the Northstar V-8. That sucker looked like a slow-mobile, but it would give most anything a run for the money back then. Smooth, handled nice when it needed to, and fast.
They are quiet inside. Worth every penny.
I hope your dad didn’t buy a Cimarron.
Never a fan of the brand - Lincolns, OTOH, were worth the buy. Last one I had was a 2010 MK Z, absolutely loved it.

Did he buy the Cavalier based model? The Cimmarron?
Friends bought a Caddie SUV a few years ago. It was so beset with problems that they sought relief under the Florida “Lemon Law” and return the POS for a full refund. Well, they missed the statutory deadline by a few days and were forced sell the junk in less than a year (IIRC), and many repairs, after purchase.
I have a 2016 ATS with 50,000 miles. I love it. No problems. Its fun to drive and handles exceptionally well in the snow. I would absolutely buy another Cadillac.

My FIL bought my MIL Cadillacs for maybe 25 years. After the last one, they got a Toyota Avalon, which is made across the state from them. They’ve been quite happy with it. He can afford whatever he wants, but is naturally economical in what he buys. The repairs on that last Cadillac killed buying them again.
