Everyone says he has flipped to the left. He hasn’t because he never was on either side. He simply doesn’t want to take any side and his decisions reflect this. His philosophy is one of “the Court should only decide cases that nobody cares about unless it has no choice. And then? Then, the Court should twist itself into whatever knots it has to to maintain the status quo.

In short, he’s a coward who isn’t respected by anyone on the Court, left or right. He’s a null creature with, unfortunately, a vote.
