Van Morrison and Eric Clapton Don’t like Lockdowns Collaborate on Tunes to Promote

Music legends Van Morrison and Eric Clapton have created a body of work that is memorable and meaningful to many people around the world over the decades, but Morrison has fallen out of favor with the left because he is concerned about the Pandemic restrictions upon the future of live music.

Morrison has spoken out against the government sanction stay at home order:

We were all meant to be in this together. Just because the government says something doesn't make it true. https://t.co/YAx5r10E4X — Van Morrison (@vanmorrison) November 24, 2020

And he uses his industry expertise to promote his message.

According to Morrison’s press release:

Van Morrison is releasing three new tracks in response to the ongoing UK government lockdown restrictions.

Born To Be Free, As I Walked Out, and No More Lockdown are songs of protest which question the measures the Government has put in place. Morrison makes it clear in his new songs how unhappy he is with the way the Government has taken away personal freedoms.

Morrison says;

““I’m not telling people what to do or think, the government is doing a great job of that already. It’s about freedom of choice, I believe people should have the right to think for themselves.” ”

The singer-songwriter, who is campaigning for performance venues to open at full capacity again, feels strongly that lockdown is in danger of killing live music. Without a date for reopening fully in 2020, many venues will shut down for good.

The three tracks will be available for download and streaming only from selected outlets.

Born To Be Free is released on Friday September 25

As I Walked Out is released on Friday October 9

No More Lockdown is released on Friday October 23

Live music was banned completely when the lockdown was imposed in March. It has been possible for indoor live music performances to take place with socially distanced audiences since August 1. But very few gigs have taken place in the UK and most venues remain shut.

Morrison will debut the new tracks later this month at his upcoming shows in the London Palladium.

“There are many of us who support Van and his endeavors to save live music; he is an inspiration,” Clapton said according to Variety. “We must stand up and be counted because we need to find a way out of this mess. The alternative is not worth thinking about. Live music might never recover.”

According to Variety:

Music legends Van Morrison and Eric Clapton have announced a new single, “Stand and Deliver,” in support of Morrison’s Save Live Music campaign. The blues track was written by Morrison and is performed by Clapton.

Morrison, best known for songs like “Brown Eyed Girl,” “Domino” and “Wild Night,” as well as seminal albums “Moondance” and “Astral Weeks,” released three songs protesting the U.K. lockdown over September and October, titled “Born To Be Free,” “As I Walked Out” and “No More Lockdown.”

Proceeds from “Stand and Deliver” will go to the Morrison’s Lockdown Financial Hardship Fund, which helps musicians facing difficulties as a result of the coronavirus and resulting lockdown measures.”

“It is heartbreaking to see so many talented musicians lack any meaningful support from the government, but we want to reassure them that we are working hard every day to lobby for the return of live music, and to save our industry,” Morrison added upon release of news of his Clapton collaboration.

According to his website, Morrison’s fund has already disbursed its first allotments. Still, the group promises that more money will soon be raised for a second round of donations to struggling artists.

Van Morrison has already released several songs that are critical of the lockdowns, including “Born To Be Free,” “As I Walked Out,” and “No More Lockdown.”

Morrison’s criticism of lockdowns has stirred controversy in certain circles, especially among government officials. The “Moondance” singer recently drew criticism from Northern Ireland’s health minister Robin Swann who called the protest songs “dangerous.”

The left loved the two music legends, until they stood up to the Covid controlers.

I was today years old when I learned Eric Clapton is such a huge racist that in the 70s the movement Rock Against Racism was started after Clapton showed public support for a UK far-right party. And now he and Van Morrison have put out an anti-lockdown song. Makes sense. — Ani-Mia (@AniMiaOfficial) November 27, 2020

The #government restrictions are damaging the arts sector, disregarding the professionals within the #music, #theatre, and #liveperformance sectors.

This is unacceptable, and we must act now. #SaveLiveMusic https://t.co/ihpn0zDzjz — Save Live Music (@Save_LiveMusic) November 26, 2020

>>The singer-songwriter, who is campaigning for performance venues to open at full capacity again, feels strongly that lockdown is in danger of killing live music. Without a date for reopening fully in 2020, many venues will shut down for good.

The Rolling Stones have a tour that has been postponed for nearly a year already and the shutdown mob has already telegraphed that they want the whole wide world shut down through next summer.

You can safely consider this to be “their final tour”. With the undertaking at risk of edicts there is a lot of money and coordination on the line.

Van Morrison joined The Pretty Things onstage a few years ago for their final tour and while The Pretty Things have since released one more album, the singer passed away this year.

Eric Clapton has indicated his hands give him problems at this age and is probably retiring from the road.

Bob Seger retired. Didn’t Elton John and Paul Simon retire?

People are being put to pasture unable to ply their trade.

Shut out by an industry that is reaping billions from streaming pop acts who put on dance and lipsync shows.

And some folks apparently consider being anti lockdown to be racis’ thus making Eric and Van both racists. I did actually see that someplace the other day. Not quite clear as to how that conclusion was arrived at.....................

I knew there was something I liked about Van Morrison!

A man I knew in Canada years ago played bass for him for many years. TB Sheets and Astral Weeks are among my favorite albums.

Do you suppose there’s any way these people ever get to know how many others appreciate them, or do google algorithms cancel all of us away?

He’s been a protest singer for some time

Van Morrison’s Contractual Obligation Album

Still legally bound to Bang Records, Morrison would yet have more issues with them in the future. For the time being, Schwaid managed to free him from those obligations, under several conditions.

First, Morrison had to write and submit to Web IV Music (Bert Berns’s publishing company) three original compositions per month over the course of one year.

Morrison fulfilled that obligation by recording thirty-six nonsense songs in a single session.

Such action risked legal reprisals, but ultimately none transpired.

Elton John had planned a 3 year final tour.

https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/elton-john-announces-farewell-yellow-brick-road-tour-make-up-dates-1065129/

The Farewell Yellow Brick Road is billed as Elton’s final tour. The set focuses on massive hits like “Rocket Man,” “Your Song,” Rocket Man” and “The Bitch is Back,” but he also sprinkles in some lesser-known tunes like “Indian Sunset,” “Believe” and “I Want Love.”
