Vanderbilt fired head football coach Derek Mason on Sunday, one day after he made history by allowing Sarah Fuller to suit up as a kicker for his team. On Saturday, Fuller became the first female to play for a Power 5 football team when she kicked off against Missouri. Mason is said to have gone with Fuller, a senior goalkeeper on the Vanderbilt soccer team, because his other kickers were deemed unavailable due to COVID-19.

I’m confident it had more to do with the 50-odd to nothing blowout than the chick place kicker.
LOL your post made me giggle.
if memory serves, the AD at Vandy who fired him is a chick.
He has been awful. That stunt yesterday was supremely stupid. He had 40 players on his team who could kick better than her. Publicity stunt is all it was, probably trying to save his job.
So when do sports become equal and men start playing on women’s softball teams?

Did you forget the ‘s’ tag?
Haven’t you heard about track & field etc with the ‘confused’ boys playing as girls AND - in some cases - beating HS girls out for College scholarships?
All this reminds me of the old Tank MacNamara cartoon where a ‘mediocre’ Black Football player applied whitewash and became a ‘Star’ on the team only problem with him was he wouldn’t shower...(HA)...
0-8 says it all. He knew what was coming so he laid a very ineffective smokescreen with this.
Will they make a movie about this chick like they did for “Rudy”?
..........someday some CHICK is going to get laid out on a kickoff by a 250lb kid running down field and the young CHICK will have every bone in her body broke and the University gets sued for ten million by her parents!
From the article:
Vanderbilt ultimately lost to Missouri 41-0, dropping the program’s record to 0-8.Mason was fired shortly thereafter.
Mason amassed a 27-55 record in six seasons at Vanderbilt. He will go down as the sixth-winningest coach in program history and only the second to make it to two bowl games.
Maybe the sixth-winningest coach in number of wins, but he's number 20 out of 28 coaches in winning percentage.
Vanderbilt is sort of breather game for the other teams in the SEC. Vandy is supposed to lose. With only an SEC schedule it is difficult for Vandy to get a win. The SEC keeps Vandy...Needs Vandy...An easy win for all the other SEC teams.

Vandy’s always been a joke team.
Looked like sort of a standard "squib kick" to me.
If she tried a full kickoff I wonder how far she could kick it? Maybe down to the 20?
And I assume she was there to kick extra points and field goals. It would be curious to see if she could do better than the numerous high school kickers enrolled at Vanderbilt but not on the team.
i’ve read comments that she could barely get it over the uprights from 20 yds. That’s ok for extra points but FG wudda have to be close.
The kickers were all out due to virus issues.
I doubt she was their best choice.

Mason also released a statement on Twitter.
“It has truly been my honor to have been given the opportunity to teach, mentor, champion and coach hundreds of Vanderbilt young men and one courageous female,” he wrote.

Fuller, meanwhile, said after Saturday’s outing that she would love the opportunity to keep playing with the team.

“I’ve been having a lot of fun doing this. It’s a challenge for me, but it’s something I know I can do. It’s applicable from doing a goal kick to a field goal kick, so I want to continue learning, and if those guys can help me, I’m all for it.”
Prior to getting fired, Mason said he would love to have Fuller back.
“If she wants to kick and she’s available, we’d love to have her,” he said.

It remains to be seen if the next Vanderbilt coach will feel the same way.
Thus far, the names being discussed to replace Mason include former NFL coach Jeff Fisher, Buffalo’s Lance Leipold, Notre Dame defensive coordinator Clark Lea, and Princeton’s Bob Surace.
Who will the job ultimately go to? Time will tell.
