THE SECESSION MOVEMENT: Message of Governor Gist to the South Carolina Legislature; Editorial-Secession and the Slave-Trade; The Kansas Troubles (11/28/1860)
New York Times archives - Times Machine ^ | 11/28/1860

COLUMBIA, Tuesday, Nov. 27. Gov. GIST in his Message devotes many pages to local and State affairs. He says the view of secession becomes doubly important, that we will have direct trade with Europe, and advises the State to foster enterprises for such purposes by guarantees of five per cent. Referring to the postal matter he says he is authorized by the Postmaster at Charleston to say that as soon as the State secedes, he will sever his connection with the Federal Government, and obey the call of the State. This, together with the resignations of Postmasters generally would enable the State to establish her postal arrangements herself unembarrassed. He suggests, as a temporary expedient, to use Adams' Express. He further suggests that probably arrangements will be made between South Carolina and the Federal authorities, for a given time, until other States secede, and a Southern Confederacy formed. If the Government insists on considering South Carolina in the Union after the ordinance of secession, the present postal arrangement must cease, and another under a State authority be substituted. The Governor advises the prohibition of the introduction of slaves from States not members of the Suothern Confederacy, and particularly border States. He says let them keep their slave property in our borders, and the only alternative left them is emancipation by their own act or action of their confederates. He hopes, however, that all the Slave States will unite in a Southern Confederacy. He advises the passage of most ample and stringent laws against Abolition incendiaries to supercede lynching and deter violations of law.

Well, I think it’s about time we start bringing this up again in January 2021 if Harris is inaugurated.

The level of violence and corruption that her administration will bring to the country and the world will be epic.

Should have just whacked anyone talking about it before it got any further. A few dozen “Oops we were just trying to question ‘em but they died while escaping” of the Fire Eaters in a covert op or two would have prevented a whole lot of hurt.

buffyt: "Texans, we have BEGGED to secede for decades!~"

Please remember that it was Democrats who went berserk when they lost the election in 1860 -- it did not end well for them -- and who will again go berserk if the 2020 election somehow gets "overturned" in Trump's favor.

Now if you yourself are starting to feel Democratic then I'd suggest a big tub of ice-water, soak your head in it until the feeling goes away.

We are the party of the Free Republic, Republicans, we stand with the Constitution even when (especially when) it's under most grievous assault by Democrats.

And as in 1861, we have a fantastic leader, who might well still pull off a win for 2020, but if not then big wins in 2022 & 2024.
Keep the faith.
