Mystifying monolith found amid Utah rocks

2020: Another Oddity.

Wildlife officials in Utah were in a remote area counting sheep from a helicopter when they discovered a shiny metal monolith that looks straight out of a Stanley Kubrick film.

It is estimated to be about 10 to 12 feet high, and its glistening surface is in sharp contrast to the large red rocks that surround it.

Wednesday’s discovery appears to have been firmly planted in the soil, and not dropped from above.

On Instagram, Utah’s highway patrol shared a picture of the bizarre finding with a caption reading: “Counting big horn sheep with DWR this week. During the counts we came across this, in the middle of nowhere, buried deep in the rock. Inquiring minds want to know, what the heck is it?

It looks pristine. If it had actually been there in the wilderness for any length of time, it would be covered with dust and possibly some sort of plant growth.

Its a piece of metal in the desert and doesn't have even one bullet hole in it. Can't have been there more than a week.

That was from the opening scene of Mel Brooks’ History of the World Part 1. It was mocking the opening scene from 2001: A Space Odyssey, with the apes and the monolith.

My guess is a radar deflector. Odd angles on rocks made mountain a poor deflector.They placed it there to give aircraft a solid target. Probably directly below a flight path.
But,what do I know. I’m just a piano player in a whore house.
