I also was in an 8th grade math class. Edison Jr. High School in Port Arthur, Texas. My head was down on my desk as tears rolled down face and I cried silently. Times have changed. I’m closer to my death than my birth and my country is about to begin it’s swan song. I still feel like putting my head down on that desk and weeping.

Nobody back then at 15 years of age was into politics.
What struck me later in life was the nonchalance in notifying the student body during after school announcements on the public address system...not even breaking into classes to tell us Pres. Kennedy had been assassinated.
These were Franciscan priest who taught us, not Commie Jesuits, so yes, it was a shock to my system.

I was in Southbridge, Massachusetts on my first job after graduating from a French-Canadian Catholic high school in 1962. The man in the next office was on his phone in a state of shock and disbelief that the President had been shot. Later another call came in that the President was dead.
That whole weekend was like a bad dream that wouldn't end. Even my father, who was a rock-ribbed Republican, was sad.

I was boxing up books in the 5th floor of the Texas Book Depository.

As in carpentry, measure twice, cut once.
Or measure once, and cuss twice.

The moderator changed the title for me from “75 years” to “57 years”...
As you probably read, everyone got a good charge out of my mistake...
It was pretty funny...

I was in Fifth Grade. The Principal came in and with the teacher broke the news. It was a shock to all of us, regardless of party. IIRC, we were released early.
My uncle was career Navy stationed in the Washington area, or maybe Norfolk. Later, he showed the family home movies he made of the funeral procession.
