DENVER — A beloved uncle and Transportation Security Administrator at Denver International Airport recently lost his battle to COVID-19.
On Monday, 49-year-old Eduard Faktorovich died of complications from the novel coronavirus. He worked at the checkpoint at DIA for more than two years.
The sound of planes taking off was fuel for Faktorovich, a globetrotter eager to explore the world. He had a knack for mapping out adventures. For many years, Faktorovich worked as a travel agent.
“He’s been to so many places,” his niece, Megan Faktorovich, told Denver7 Tuesday.
In 2018, Faktorovich landed a job as a TSA agent and worked exclusively at the checkpoint. The job was fitting for a man who loved to travel.
“He was so excited and talked about it all the time,” Faktorovich said.
To many, he was “Gru” from the movie “Despicable Me.”
“He was like the embodiment of Gru,” Megan said. “He was very passionate about everything. He just lit up a room. He was the brightest person you could imagine. He was so funny and was full of love.”
Megan says, as a frontline worker with pre-existing conditions, her uncle panicked when the pandemic hit.
“He didn’t really want to go to work, but he felt like he had to because he had to help those people,” she said.
A fear that became a reality when he tested positive for COVID-19. His last day at work was Nov. 2.
“There would be days where he would be pretty okay and then there were days when he would run a very high fever and he would be coughing a lot,” Megan recalled from their calls.
She says he went to the doctor and got medication but waited too long as his health declined.
“He actually called 911 himself yesterday (Monday), so he was trying to go to the hospital, but it was too late,” she said.
Nearly 3,000 TSA employees across the U.S. have tested positive for COVID-19. Faktorovch is the ninth to die, according to TSA data.
Since March, 62 TSA employees have tested positive for the virus at DIA and the latest confirmed case was on Sunday.
TSA released a statement Tuesday, which reads, in part,“His death is a reminder to all of us at TSA of the ongoing seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic. We remain committed to continuing to take every precaution to help protect our workforce as well as airline travelers.”
On Tuesday, flyers filed through the checkpoint where agents sat behind plexiglass with masks and gloves to help protect them.
“At this point, they are doing their best,” Megan said.
Thanksgiving is expected to mark the busiest holiday at the airport since March, according to a spokesperson with DIA.
Megan is warning people to stay home.
“I don’t think it’s safe for anyone to travel,” she said.
She hopes by sharing her uncle’s story, people feeling ill from COVID-19 will seek medical help before it’s too late and think twice before booking their flight.
“We just lost on one of the most important people,” Megan said. “He really did just bring everyone together.” “We just lost on one of the most important people,” Megan said. “He really did just bring everyone together.”
" ... died of complications from the novel coronavirus ... "
They've managed to give straight people AIDS and NO ONE is paying attention to critical thought processes
And I'm doing fine, despite working in very close quarters with a bunch of other people. None of us have the 'Rona.
"Come on ev'rybody, we've got quilting to do!"
Many of us who are obese realize we are at higher risk for death from this virus. It simply takes more oxygen to run a larger body and when this virus screws up your lungs, obese people cannot get the amount of oxygen we need to run larger bodies. This man died of the Virus because he had a co-morbity. It is a sad story that is being repeated worldwide.
Those of you denigrating him because he was obese remind me of the people who called us fat kids names all through school. You probably were those kids in high school. Too bad you haven’t grown up and developed more compassion.
My personal observation is that the most gregarious people that I know are the ones most likely to contract Covid-19;
masking and social distancing seems to be irrelevant. Most of them were asymptomatic, in any case.
I imagine a TSA agent would interact with a lot of people over the course of the day, and make him susceptible to all sorts of communicable things.
or maybe he died of CIA induced Covid Insertion Agency... because he knew where the election fraud operatives in his agency were at... and could be used to track surreptitious activities by our intelligence evil doers...
a purveyor of sources and methodology...
Covid 19 is one hammer they will use to prevent holiday fraternization and possible organization against a stolen election!
Propogandists certainly are ramping up the Covid fear despite theraputic remedies and a soon to be released vaccine.
WHY?
Me too. It helps when you don’t like people...
Grow up and eat a salad, fatty.
So he didn’t wear a mask?
Poor fellow. He looks friendly. Bet we wasn’t taking enough Vitamin D3. His weight played a part, too. Why are you all being so mean to him?
Again. I’m not being mean to him. Just the story.
About 42% of the US population is in the same boat this guy is in in terms of weight and health.
We have becoming an increasingly unhealthy people, left more open to illness and other problems. Also a big part of why our healthcare costs are as high as they are.
What would him wearing a mask have to do with anything. The primary function of wearing a mask is to reduce the range and volume of the respiratory droplets that enable transmission of SARS-CoV-2. Him wearing a mask would have had little impact on his risk for catching it. Other people wearing their masks would reduce the risk, much like having airbags in your car reduces your risk for serious injury in the event of an accident. But people driving in cars with airbags are seriously hurt or killed all the time, because reducing risk is not the same as eliminating it.
I know. I grew up in the 70s/80s and really miss thin and fit looking girls in tight jeans. 80% of people are chunky if not downright fat or obese. It started with rap music and black people on mtv becoming popular. Now white girls want “back” aka a big ass or want to be “thick” aka overweight. Easy to do when people don’t have to be active. You don’t see any fat, out of shape Amish or Mennonite people. Of course some of the Amish women are pretty muscular.
Nahhhh.. no comorbidities there.
Lies, damn lies and statistics and that’s NOT what the “science” was saying back in June - “if both parties wear a mask the risk of transmission is near zero”
There’s a good chance he didn’t get it at the job anyway.
Sure, neither obesity nor any other pre-existing conditions or co-morbidities ...
