This date in 2000 was a pivotal moment in U.S. history, as the presidential election results in a statistical tie between Democrat Al Gore and Republican George Bush. The results in Florida were unclear by the end of election night and resulted in a recount and a Supreme Court case, Bush v. Gore, which ended the dispute in favor of Bush a month later. .. Gore was the sitting Vice President to then-president Bill Clinton, while Bush was the Governor of Texas and son of former president George H.W. Bush. In the national popular vote, Gore received 48.4 percent while Bush received 47.9, losing by over 540,000 votes. U.S. presidents, however, are chosen by the Electoral College, a system in which “electoral votes” are assigned to states based on their population and then awarded as a lump sum to the winner of the popular vote in that state—currently, it takes 270 electoral votes to win. By the end of Election Night, 2000, Gore’s tally stood at 250 and Bush’s stood at 246 with Oregon, Wisconsin and Florida too close to call.
Oregon and Wisconsin went to Gore in the following days, but Florida’s 25 electoral votes made it the key to victory for both candidates. The initial result there put Bush in front, but it was close enough to trigger an automatic recount. The ensuing saga involved multiple legal battles, recounts and calls for further recounts, and numerous debates about the methods used to record votes. On December 12, the Supreme Court ordered an end to the Florida recount and Gore conceded to Bush.
I guess the Deep State after lots of internal negotiations decided it would be OK if Bush pretended to head up America for a couple of years. And then allowed him a second term.
There are 74 days until Inauguration Day.

Gore did not concede until dec 18 and after he had exhausted all legal remedies. In fact the Supreme Court ended it. In Gores’ concession he said although he strongly disagreed he accepted it.
From my memory, Gore conceded to Bush, but when more ballots came he took back his concession. When Bush reminded him he had already conceded the election Gore said...”Well, don’t be snippy bout it!”
The Florida laws required the state to declare a winner after a certain date, but the Fla Supreme Court told them to keep counting.
A quick trip to the SCOTUS made it clear that Fla had to abide by their own laws and declare a winner. Bush won.

Actually SCOTUS did so, 5-4, along ideological lines. Yet even a CCN study states, Taken as a whole, the recount studies show Bush would have most likely won the Florida statewide hand recount of all undervotes. I worked in the Florida Capitol during the 2000 recount... state Senate Appropriations. It was center of the universe for 36 days... me in the midst of it. Early on the night of the election the media inexplicably called Florida for Al Gore then later had to uncall it... then called it for George W. Bush announcing he was elected president. Al Gore conceded. We went to bed...
To wake up to learn overnight thousands of Gore votes showed up in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade counties. Putting Gore within a thousand votes of Bush... media uncalled again and Al Gore un- conceded.
Then recounts after recounts. As now in Pennsylvania, the then Democrat Florida supreme court ruled in favor of Gore... ignoring Florida election law. This forced the U.S. Supreme court to intervene and stop the madness. The Florida Legislature, controlled by the GOP was prepared to select the electors according the their authority per Article II, Section 1, U.S. Constitution.
Then Al Gore was checkmated and conceded again. Moral of the story: media companies don’t certify elections.
