Came across a YT on it at one time several years ago.
Some people could hear it, others not. When mentioned it to a relative, was asked if I could hear dog whistles, and sometimes, yes.
It is a very high-pitched frequency I have been hearing on and off since about 2013, at first only once in a while, and up to recently almost all of the time as a background noise. No, it is not tinnitus.
The only mention I can find of it now is as a “ghost” frequency of paranormals, and have no interest in listening to familiar spirits, thanks.

In March of 1994 I experienced something like the Taos Hum but it was an inaudible vibration. Lived in SE Michigan at the time, and years later found a cluster of Western Lake Erie hum reports. I only called it the Taos Hum because that is all I had ever heard of when internet research became available. If I described how it happened and then persisted, I’d be laughed off the page, even here.

All I know is, I hated it.
The hum has been heard by millions of people, so no laughed off page. There is never a specific spot or direction, but you must be in a quiet environment to hear it - no road noise or other ambient sounds - indoor or outdoor, makes no difference.
Its possible it is some sort of piezoelectric phenomenon - quartz stone under pressure gives off clouds of ions which are electrically charged and there might be some sort of sound associated with this which we hear as a hum (just speculation the last bit).
All I know is, I hated it.

You’d hate it even more, if as part of your work day, you had to listen to it wearing headphones, while recording it, listening to the voice channels and transcribing the traffic.
