Can The Senate Save The Country?

If, God forbid, Trump ends up with the election being stolen from him, can the Senate block all of the crazy ideas Progressives promised to implement if Biden won, like adding 2 more states, severely limiting the 2nd Amendment, packing the SCOTUS, etc?

Republicans should brush up on their Alinsky.

We should riot and loot the leftest buildings. Everyone should change their withholding rates this morning. We should follow these people around, block their cars, and disrupt their meetings.

Last night the GOP should have surrounded the counting place in Philly. No one in or out.

The GOP talks tough, but really they are late to the game and we have probably lost our chances to secure victory. And honestly, we don’t do “resistance” well.

Time to split the country up.

Actually, it’s more likely that the GOP Senate will cut deals with the Democrats and capitulate on a lot of these things.

“If Biden wins, why does anyone with a brain on this side not realize this was their last election?”

The Senate? Save the country?

Now that right there is the funniest thing I’ve read today!

“1. A GOP Senate can block every presidential appointments — notably Supreme Court justices but also cabinet appointments — indefinitely.”

Only if the GOP senators vote as a block. Unfortunately several GOP senators are notorious for being “independent”. Murkowski, Collins, Romney are prime examples. Sasse was just reelected and could defect from time to time. Burr in NC is a lame duck and is best buds with Mark Warner. He loses nothing if he breaks ranks.

If the GOP has only a majority of 1, don’t rule out a party change. Consider the example of GOP Senator Jim Jeffords in 2001. He left the party to become an independent who caucused with the Democrats thereby shifted the Senate to Democrat. This defection deprived the G.W. Bush administration of majorities in both Senate and House during its first 2 years. The Bush years also saw the defection of GOP Senator Arlan Specter who switched parties but did not change the balance of power in the Senate.

I think most here understand that...there are some who think the GOP can improve in the future and compete, but they are those who likely are making the mistake of not taking the Democrats at their word.

And anyway, it wasn’t just a victory by the Democrats, it was a victory of the Government and political class against those who still fought for the old idea of government of, by and for the people.

Yeah it’s over forever.

I disagree with that- we heard the same thing when obama won in ‘08- the GOP will never win another election, blah-blah...

Then the Tea Party came
Massive House victory in ‘10
House and Senate in ‘14
WH in ‘16

The rats will try and go too far- and this time they don’t have the Senate or SCOTUS like they did in ‘08, and it will come back to bite them.

They can do those things. But they won’t.

This is a victory of the government and political class over those who believe the government’s power comes from the people.

D.C. will be back on steroids and there will be no check on government power or on the corruption of the political class. You’d be lucky to find 15 people in the entire government who would actually fight in the manner you suggest.

Jeffords was already on the edge of oblivion as a Republican Senator in a region where the GOP has been losing power in Congress for years. His shift did nothing but undermine an existing president and a House that was controlled by the GOP.

Most of the time these "independent" senators only show their independence when their votes don't matter. Murkowski's vote on the Kavanaugh nomination in 2018 and Collins' vote on the ACB nomination in 2020 are perfect examples of this.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out, but my original point still stands: The GOP Senate owes absolutely nothing to the dysfunctional sh!t-hole states that have been dominated by Democrats for years.

And if you think this doesn't come into play when drafting legislation and crafting strategy in the Senate, just look at what happened with the provision of the 2017 tax reform bill that capped state and local tax deductions. The six states that were screwed the most by that tax law were California, Connecticut, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey and New York. If there had been even a single Republican senator among the twelve representing those states in the Senate, that provision never would have been included in the Senate version of the tax reform bill.

The Senate will just be swept aside if the Democrats hold the House and get the Presidency. Once they formally control the bureaucracy and the House they can do anything they want. Courts can be ignored. I expect the House and president will eventually declare that the Senate is an advisory body only and that the Constitution can and will be amended by the House. how are we going to stop them?

We have to realize that even with Trump pulling this out (and I think he will with help from ACB)....but really we are just putting off the inevitable. This country is lost. The good news is I’m old. Lol

Of course, it can.None of those things can be done by executive order.

I'm not talking about the GOP fighting to protect their constituents. I'm talking about them fighting to protect their DONORS and the INDUSTRIES in their own states.

Do you think Lindsey Graham is a globalist because he's part of a corrupted political class? No. He's a globalist because he's bought and owned by Boeing -- which wants to sell its aircraft to government-owned airlines in dysfunctional sh!t-holes all over the world, even if it means toppling governments in Iraq, Syria, Libya, Egypt, etc.

Stopping presidential appointments and stopping a bailout of states will have nothing to do with protecting donors or favored industries - they aren’t going to have to stymie a president in or deny bailouts to protect the people making them rich. One won’t have anything to do, in all likelihood, with the other.

You do not seem to understand that they are going to rig the system just like they are rigging this election. Tea Party was smashed by the same people rigging this election.

Please, face the facts.

This country cannot be saved by the ballot box. Today is your proof. There are other ways than jumping off a bridge.

I am not naive. Time for Americans to see that this was really the last chance at the ballot box. Once that is corrupted one has to change their options.

We were warned.
