Kumari, an 18-year-old Indian crested porcupine and one of the Phoenix Zoo's animal ambassadors, recently underwent surgery to remove a cancerous mass that was found in her mammary glands. She is now recovering at the zoo's Animal Care Center.
The zoo announced the news on Friday to coincide with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, which is recognized in October, and to remind people that animals can have breast cancer too, according to a news release.
Though considered to be rare, there are a few reports of breast cancer in porcupines, the zoo said.

Well here's a headline you don't see every day. A porcupine with breast cancer. Since we're being bombarded with election news all day, I thought this article might represent a nice, albeit short, diversion.
...and by the way...the porcupine is doing fine.

Serves her right for not getting the HPV vaccine.

The answer to the riddle is, “Very carefully.”
What’s the question? Anyone? Anyone at all...

That’s nice. I know a woman that couldn’t get to see a Doctor during the Chinese Flu fiasco she’s now in big trouble but that’s cute we can help the porcupines.

I didn’t know porcupines could live so long. 18 years old!
Perhaps since they don’t have many predators, they are left alone to age naturally. That’s a good zoo, to give Kumari such care and attention. They could have just put her down.
I still doubt if they would ever make good pets.

You’ll have to ask Bill Clinton about that.

Whether or not they should get the getting the HPV vaccine is a prickly topic among many porcupines.

Both are acceptable answers.
Another one is, “How do you milk a porcupine?”

Many years ago, I had a guinea pig, that succumbed to breast cancer. A male. I just couldn’t justify spending a bunch of $$ for treatment.

Isn’t 18 waaaay beyond the normal lifespan of a porcupine?
Why bother?
