Nearly 1 million crockpots sold by Amazon, Target and Walmart recalled for burn risk
cbs ^ | 11/25/2020 | Katie Gibson
FR Posted on 11/25/2020, 5:07:05 PM by BenLurkin

Sunbeam Products is recalling almost a million crockpots sold by retailers including Amazon, Target and Walmart after roughly 100 consumers were burned — some seriously — when the lids blew off in use, spewing hot food and liquid.

The recalled Crock-Pot multi-cooker can pressurize when the lid is not fully locked, causing the lid to suddenly come off in use, posing burn risks to consumers from spewing hot food and liquids, according to a notice posted by the U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission.

Sunbeam has received 119 reports of lids detaching, resulting in 99 injuries ranging in severity from first-degree to third-degree burns, the Boca Raton, Florida-based company said.

Twas the week after Christmas, and all through the house,

Not a single thing fit me, not even a blouse.

Mayo Clinic Grapefruit Diet

BREAKFAST:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
2 Eggs any style
2 Slices of bacon
Black coffee or tea, no sugar

LUNCH:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Salad and or raw veggies (any dressing, {not low fat or fat free})
Meat (Cooked any way)

DINNER:
1/2 grapefruit or 8oz unsweetened juice.
Meat (cooked any way) Vegetables (any green or red, may be cooked in butter or Seasoning or a salad as above) Black coffee or tea, no sugar

BEDTIME:
(opt) 8oz Tomato juice or skim milk

INSTRUCTIONS: IMPORTANT

STAY ON DIET 12 DAYS AND STOP FOR 2 DAYS
Works out great to start on a Monday because you will
have every other weekend off of the diet.

1. At any meal you may eat until you are full. You must eat the minimum listed at each meal.

2. Do not eliminate anything from the diet, especially don’t skip the bacon at breakfast or omit salads.
It is the combination of foods that burn fat cells.

3. The grapefruit is important because it acts as a catalyst that starts the burning process.

4. Cut down on coffee, it affects the insulin balance that hinders the burning process.
Try to limit your intake to one cup at mealtime.

5. Don’t eat between meals, if you eat the combination of food suggested, you will not get hungry.

6. The diet eliminates most sugars and starches, but does not eliminate fat because fat does not form fat,
it helps burn it. Feel free to fry your food in butter and use butter generously on vegetables.

7. Do not eat desserts, breads, white vegetables, or sweet potatoes.

8. There may be no weight loss in the first 4 days, but you may lose 5 pounds on the 5th day.
You may lose 1 and 1/2 pounds every two days until you reach your goal.

YOU MAY NOT HAVE:
White onions, potatoes, corn, starchy vegetables, bread, noodles, rice, potato chips, pretzels, or fruit.

YOU MAY HAVE:
Red onions, bell peppers, radishes, broccoli, cucumbers, green onions, leaf spinach, cabbage, tomatoes, green beans, lettuce, chili (no beans) mayonnaise, any cheese, hot dogs, cole slaw, regular salad dressing, green vegetables, 1tsp nuts, dill or bread and butter pickles.

Drink Lots of Water Too!

Note: You can substitute diet soda for the drinks.

Always consult your Physician before starting a new diet program.

I think I tried this diet way back in the day.

It’s relatively low-carb, and probably works for lots of people; but enzymes in grapefruit may reduce the efficacy of some statins, for the people who are on them.

The old grapefruit diet is getting a new life......eating lots of fresh fruit is appealing, I guess.

Charcuterie Houses Are This Year’s Most Festive Holiday Treat

Decorating gingerbread houses is one of my favorite holiday traditions. We decorate haunted cookie houses at Halloween, traditional gingerbread houses at Christmas, and now, charcuterie houses at Thanksgiving. Yes, you read that right: The latest holiday food trend involves swapping out gingerbread, icing, and candy for cold cuts, cheese cubes, and fresh veggies.

We’ve even seen Thanksgiving charcuterie boards (here are 9 you should try this season), but this tasty trend takes things to a whole new level. Charcuterie chalets (as folks online are calling them) aren’t totally new, but we’re starting to see more of them as we get closer to Thanksgiving—perhaps because people are spending more time at home and looking for new Thanksgiving traditions to start this year.

Cute idea........but a platter groaning w/ charcuterie, fruits and cheeses is a tried and true crowd-pleaser.

I remember making them with my Mom a few times when I was little. She baked and decorated Wedding Cakes as a side-line, so she rarely had time for things that weren’t bringing in money. ;)

I never made them with my boys - because they were all 100% BOY, though a niece and I made them together a few times. Good memories. :)

Athol Orchards - Apple Cider Syrup - Cyber Monday Sale
Athol Orchards | November 30, 2020 | POF
FR Posted on 11/30/2020, 11:41:31 AM by ProtectOurFreedom

There’s a heritage apple orchard in Athol, Idaho called “Athol Orchards.” They make the most amazing apple cider syrup which is a delightful change from good old maple syrup on your pancakes and waffles. They are located in the Idaho Panhandle region, part of the Inland Northwest.

The woman who founded and runs the company is a real apple aficionado and really knows a lot about heritage apples. She attends heritage apple conferences to perfect her craft and belongs to the heritage apple associations in the Pacific Northwest.

She started up Athol Orchards a few years ago and has done an absolutely amazing job expanding her business. She now has retail distribution in a lot of places in North Idaho and Western Washington...and has added her first retail store in Northern California!

Her mail order business is really taking off, too, and today is her Cyber Monday sale.

So I thought I’d take this opportunity to plug one of my favorite foods to my friends on FR. I have no business or family association with Athol Orchards — I just love her products and her success story! She first started selling through local Farmer’s Markets and, in a few short years, has really expanded the business.

If you want to try something wonderful, unique, and new as well as support a local woman entrepreneur, give it a try. If you’re ever in North Idaho, be sure to stop by their operation!

PS: The “Hot Apple Syrup” sounds a bit odd, but it really works. Just a slight hint of “heat” in the sweet syrup is a great combination.

Youtube “imstillworkin” - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=itdza8kY0zY

This is the BEST donut recipe. They are fluffy and the dough is so easy to work with. Love Susan’s videos. She knows her stuff and she’s a conservative. Do as she says to use Crisco and all purpose flour. I didn’t want to hunt down the donut cutter so used a wide mouthed jar for the donuts and a spice lid for the holes.

Made these yesterday and Hubby said they’re bakery quality!

This is also cat approved. My cat suddenly jumped up and ran over to watch the video and was very intent staring at it. He’s never done that before to the computer or the tv. Then he tried to get into it. Very weird.

I’m not much of a donut person, but I’ve seen that channel and liked it very much.
