"Tony Lewis, singer of the '80s rock band The Outfield, suddenly and unexpectedly passed away," reads the statement. "Tony's music touched people around the globe for decades. Lewis and the late John Spinks took the '80s by storm with The Outfield's infectious pop songs, including 'Your Love,' 'All The Love' and 'Say It Isn't So.' 'Your Love' reached No. 6 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 Chart in 1986 and is still widely known today, with features in various TV spots and commercials, gaining millions of streams each month." The "Your Love" video currently boasts more than 300 million views on YouTube.
The band had achieved huge success in the U.S., but weren't as known in the U.K. Still, the band continued to record and tour through the 1980s and into the early 1990s.

I definitely like the dancier stuff like Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Ministry/Revco etc. but yeah. I’m not a Throbbing Gristle fan, Genesis P Orridge just skeeves me out too much. But, I love Einsturzende Neubauten, Skinny Puppy, Front Line Assembly, Fad Gadget, Cabaret Voltaire are some of my mainstays.
Oh, and I’m really enjoying going back over Gary Numan’s first couple of albums.
You?
Mike and the Mechanics were amazing. The Living Years guts me.
RIP.
It’s apparent that I stopped listening to “popular” music around 1970 in that I’ve never heard of the majority of the musicians currently dying.
Fire - The Crazy World Of Arthur Brown @ TOTP 1968 (This is as crazy as anything from the 80s?)
YES!!! I hated his stuff Psalm 69 and beyond — it just became grungy overprocessed garbage.
Everything up to Twitch was glorious. He recently released some stuff that was PRE-With Sympathy — very darkwave, atmospheric and dancy (back when he was still that pretty Cuban boy singing in that fake English accent.) I miss that Chicago sound era.
Loved it.
Oh definitely. Also, don’t forget stuff like DOA from Bloodrock and anything by MECO. I was also a big Clockwork Orange Wendy/Walter Carlos Williams fan.
Now your Goth friend... what does he consider Goth? I’m very old school, starting with The Damned and Bauhaus.
I started at Gettysburg College in the fall of '87. During my first week there, the school brought in the Outfield for a concert free to new and returning students (ok, I know it wasn't "free," but there was no admission charge.)
It was probably a much smaller venue than they were used to, but they still put on a very enthusiastic show, and had the crowd pretty energized. The big impression I took away from the band was that they really loved what they were doing and had a great time doing it.
RIP, Tony Lewis, and thanks for the memory.
