Bill de Blasio has privately told Major League Baseball that he will do everything he can to stop Steve Cohen from buying the Mets.
The Post has learned that Hizzoner called MLB commissioner Rob Manfred earlier this month and told him outright that he opposed the idea of a hedge-fund billionaire buying a local team and would be using his oversight power of the citys control of the Citi Field lease to prevent the sale from being finalized.

Full Disclosure: I'm a Yankees fan, so I just have to laugh at all this, but even so I have some affection for my fellow NY'ers who happen to be Mets fans ... you voted for the putz .. TWICE .. Now go home and git yer Shine Box !!! /laughs
If it were old man Steinbrenner, he'd have told the idiot Mayor to take a fk'n hike, and that would've been the end of it .....
It wouldn’t have anything to do with the last name being Cohen, would it?
Can you say, “New Jersey Mets”?
Given the status of NYC on the U-Haul Index for move-outs, Wilhelm ought to consider it fortunate that anyone wants to make any investment in NYC.
Notice what the pathetic De Blasio spends his time on, with the city’s crime rate exploding, people leaving, and eventually probably businesses leaving as well. I don’t actually understand why Cohen even wants to invest in anything in NYC or must US cities for that matter, given the lunatics running them. He should consider buying an English soccer team.
Perhaps. Wouldn't put it past this low-life of a Mayor, who fancies himself as the Emperor of all New York and The World, but who is really on the lowest rung of the Peter Principle ...
“...he opposed the idea of a hedge-fund billionaire buying a local team...”
At least he’d keep the grounds neat and trim.
After this tantrum and Cohen closes the deal, he can move them 2 miles down the train line to Nassau County. Nobody wants to go to Flushing anyway.
Then he can tell delosio to enjoy the suck of that beautiful newish field of emptiness. If you build it they will leave.
deBlasshole blames all that on Trump ..... /laughs
/laughs :)
it wouldn’t shock me
I called him out on his anti Semitism a while back and many disagreed.
He will, I am afraid, continue to prove that he is.
But why a shock? Very many liberals are these days.
Hard work and the resulting success breed jealousy.
I’m of Italian descent but the Jewish guys and gals I know in Brooklyn fit right in with us...or us them :)
We all have/had middle class parents who gave everything for us and we tried/try to do a little better.
That’s what it’s all about.
and deblasio hates that.
Perish the thought. Not even Joiysey would want 'em ... besides, Senator 'Sparticus' would most likely take the reigns from deBlasshole and block the Mets from moving to the Joiysey Swamps as well .... /laughs
He really thinks he is King of the city. And his methods are those of classic graft: Weaponized regulations and permitting.
I could see Cohen buying the team, paying off in cash the deal with the NY stadium...leaving them with a structure that has no other practical use, and taking the team to another location (doesn’t even have to be New Jersey).
At the rate of growth going on....wouldn’t shock me if Nashville starts getting discussed. If you draw a 30-mile circle around the city...it’s probably over 2-million residents now, and still expanding.
Bingo my fellow NY'er FRiend :)
Cuomo: Tell Hunter to tell Arod I want 2%.
Mayor dePutz isn't intelligent enough to recognize such a rich opportunity. If he were one of Fidel's 'commissars' then Fidel would most likely smack him in the face .. twice ... then have him erased .. twice ...
After all, Fidel was a Baseball fan as well ... jes sayin'
Blasio is nuts and a communist trying to control the free market.
Always. :)
I wonder if this guy ever voted or donated to a republican.. that would explain most of this.
