A mask will pick up aerosol virons and they will hang on to the mask all day. Until you suck them in. Then you blow them out and they get stuck on the inside of the mask where you suck them in over and over.
Medical professionals throw their mask out after every patient encounter and then they are disposed of as medical waste.
The government mandates masks and people wear the same one all day.
I don’t wear a mask unless I am forced to by the business owner. If I had to wear a mask on the job, I’d probably be dead by now.
Masks not only don’t work, they make the wearer more likely to get the disease.
For protection against virii you need a ‘hot-zone’ full body suit with ultra-filtered or bottled air. Dustin Hoffman not included.

They as a culture wear masks everywhere all the time by everyone during even normal flu season. If you don’t you will be shunned and possibly assaulted. They have over 100 million people at high density exceeding NYC their numbers speak for themselves. There’s no denying that masks are working for the Japanese. They never shut down the mass transit nor subways so why with one third the people of the USA do they not have equivalent numbers of deaths and cases per 100,000 vs the USA do tell the class why masks don’t work for a country that is using them religiously and it obviously is working. Anti markers sound like toddlers having a temper tantrum it’s annoying get over it and let’s get things open just like the Japanese with universal mask compliance and smart social distancing with hard enforced quarantine for every positive person and EVERY one of their contacts something the Japanese also do they straight up lock positive cases up in their homes or quarantine centers until they test negative again that obviously is working and working well the numbers speak for themselves.
You explained it: they’re doing a lot of other things besides just wearing a mask. The also test at a rate 1/20th of what the US is doing. So, maybe they’re not recording all their cases, or deaths.
It’s also possible that Japanese people have a higher level of public immunity, as a result of higher levels of exposure to similar corona viruses in the past.
The data is pretty clear; mask, or no mask shows virtually zero statistical difference in a general public application. I wish they were effective. It would make our lives much easier. Sadly, the data says NO.
All I know is that here in PA as long as you’re in a restaurant eating you can’t catch the china virus. However, walking in the door must be very risky as a mask is required to do that. I think drinking beer in public provides immunity, too.

Correlation doesn’t imply causation. Maybe it’s due to a diet high in soy and seafood. Maybe you have to wear masks before the virus becomes widespread, otherwise they become worthless. Maybe it’s due to one or more of the other of the behaviors and disease-prevention measures by Japan, including their immigration policies. Maybe a lot of other things.

Oy vey. How much kaka gets written starting from an erroneous premise. No promoter of universal masking ever said it would stop spread of virus.
The rational is to allow spread, at the same time masking to reduce viral load both in and out. Reducing viral load can reduce severity and deaths for those who contract it and build a natural immunity. Masking eliminates need for much of the shutdowns also. The evidence is out there, but have to look for it.
Off course, masks are the ONLY difference between the Japanese and Americans. There’s no ethnic, genetic, diet, or other lifestyle differences at all. Oh, they also have millions of poor illegals swarming their borders too.

That’s completely untrue. Many fear mongers have said just that, when the goal morphed from flattening the curve to eradicating the virus. Fauci said it three days ago:

PREVENTING mean stopping.
My theory is that - unless you seal the edges of the mask to the area surrounding your nose and mouth - people get a false sense of security while wearing a mask and social distancing.
Can we at least come to a middle ground and some agreement?
What if the authorities said — It will not completely stop the spread of the virus BUT it will “help bring down viral severity even if it does”, will that be a more acceptable and truthful statement?
