Kimber Manufacturing is moving its corporate headquarters to Troy and will aggressively hire in all departments.
The firearms manufacturer last week announced it is moving to a new facility it built last year on 80 acres with more than 225,000 square feet of space, with design engineering, product management and manufacturing space.
The company, formerly based in Yonkers, N.Y., pledged two years ago to open a $38 million production facility in Troy, creating 366 jobs over the next five years, which Gov. Kay Ivey announced in her 2018 State of the State address.
In an announcement, the company said Troy was chosen for, among several reasons, its proximity to engineering schools as well as pro-gun, pro-business support from the city of Troy and Alabama.
The company said it is seeking applicants across several categories, including CNC technicians, machinists, quality control specialists, lean technicians, design engineers, compliance analysts, customer service representatives, materials planners, maintenance technicians, finishing operators, and assembly technicians.
Interested applicants may apply here.
Pedi Gega, director of assembly and product finishing, said the campus has two indoor gun ranges, one outdoor range, and a design and prototype fabrication center.
Every Kimber firearm is created with a unique blend of advanced precision technology and authentic human craftsmanship, Gega said.
Interesting. I know lots up here that have them and have had zero issues. Very odd, I’ve never heard of Kimber having issues before.
Great guns. Always wondered why they were in NYC.
Why did they stay so long in NY?
Troy Alabama is way out in the sticks.
My son also EDC’s a Taurus G2, it shoots fine for him at the range.
Maybe its Troy MT. I guess the “journalist” thinks there is only one Troy.
Now my little screen shows Alabama. This is good. BTW I have a Kimber Custom, and it has never failed to cycle anything I run through it.
Troy Alabama is way out in the sticks.
It’s only about 45 miles from Montgomery, the capital of Alabama, and on a 4 lane US highway. And has one of the largest universitys in the state.
Kimber 1911 models are exquisitely machined. (They should produce a Trump model with MAGA engraving)
But I'd always heard they were very well respected.
I own a Taurus...and is a great little gun.
I own a Sig..that likes only certain ammo..prolly needs a gunsmith.
I own a CZ52...that is a beast to shoot.
I have a Glock for sale....
Ms Kimber requests more friends.
DeBlousyo & Andy Coma will have NYC looking like a scene from “I Am Legend” in no time!
Personally, I can’t wait for it!
It doesn't clear anything up. I assumed they were moving to Troy, NY from Yonkers, NY. I had never heard of Troy Alabama and had no idea why Alabama was benefiting.
There are 25 cities in the US that have the name Troy. The one in Alabama is tiny, it has fewer than 20,000 people living there. It would be very helpful to identify the state of smaller cities and towns in the post - not that freepers are going to read the entire post before forming an opinion. ;-)
And only citizens of India will get the jobs.
Had a Kimber 1911 and sold it. It was nothing special. Now the only auto I have that isn’t a SIG is a 1922 Colt Pocket Hammerless in .380.
Sigs are perfectly reliable, even in some of the pickier calibers like .38 Super.
I get it. I can be stubborn too. Read the title, click the link and see it’s an Alabama news article talking about Troy and you want to hold onto it until the mule kicks. I’ve those days too.
