OK. So I'd like to be able to send money to help some of the tighter races.
Unfortunately, I WILL NOT leave any of my phone numbers!
I have done that already for a few donations I've made, and I haven't been able to stem the constant text messages and phone calls from those politicians with whom I've shared this information, including our President.
I've had to turn off notifications on my cell phone to stop the constant pinging from politicians. Consequently, I'm missing pings from work, family, and friends.
If you're a politician reading this, you should instruct your donation page designers to make the phone number entry fields VOLUNTARY.
Until then, I cannot donate anything.
Get a cheap track-phone from Walmart as a burner for a month...
555-1212 usually works
Ive been getting a lot of spam recently and am going to change both my email address and phone number.
Then they can spam the old ones to their hearts content.
Wal-Mart. Burner phone.
YOu dont have to, there is a skip option that is faint but there.
“555-1212 usually works”
WOW! I had no idea about this. Thank you for the tip. I looked it up in Wikipedia:
“The telephone number prefix 555 is a central office code in the North American Numbering Plan, used as the leading part of a group of 10,000 telephone numbers, 555-XXXX, in each numbering plan area (NPA)(area code). It has traditionally been used only for the provision of directory assistance, when dialing (area code)-555-1212.
The central office code is also used for fictitious telephone numbers in North American television shows, films, video games, and other media in order to prevent practical jokers and curious callers from bothering telephone subscribers and organizations by calling telephone numbers they see in works of fiction.....
ONLY 555-0100 THROUGH 555-0199 ARE NOW SPECIFICALLY RESERVED FOR FICTIONAL USE; THE OTHER NUMBERS HAVE BEEN RESERVED FOR ACTUAL ASSIGNMENT”
I have an email account specifically for spam. It’s what I give for contributions or in stores. I don’t ever review the emails in that address.
Get a burner Google phone number. Tell them it is a landline so you don’t get texts.
If it’s for Trump, you can leave a cell phone number.
You WILL get texts, not calls.
Too many texts from the RNC or his team after that (there WILL be too many) and you can stop them all with a one word text reply - stop.
You trust the Republican donation mail to make it to its destination? How quaint.
Happy to help. Some companies have caught on to the bogus number and disallow it as a legitimate number. It probably works about 80% of the time for me. If they disallow it, I just make up a number.
I used it for decades to get long distance Directory Assistance.
I also use throw-away email addresses. On Yahoo, you can have 500 throw-away email addresses. You choose a “root” address, then append a new part for each address you create. Works like this. Say my root is “Don’t_Bug_Me” and you want to create an address for Acme Widgets. In Yahoo mail, you create a new address “Don’t_Bug_Me_Acme_Widgets@yahoo.com.”
You fill out the company form using that email address. If they reply to you, it shows up in your regular Yahoo mail inbox, but you see that they sent you the mail at that address.
If they sell your email address, you’ll start getting junk mail from that throw-away address and you will know that they are the culprits.
The nice thing is you can simply delete that address to stop getting email from them and all the spammers they sold it to.
Indeed. For the original poster, I’m certain there is no actual linkage of conservative republican spam to the conservative republican you donated to. I’m somewhat certain any linkage exists to many others you may donate to.
I get TONS of this crap on my cell, and based on the latest wordings, leads me to this conclusion. I’m getting requests from Trump and R’s down the line, with last chance to donate, we’re about to lose without your $’s, donate now for 10x matching, etc. No way many of these emails are tied to my original donations.
Bottom line is, you’ll get this spam whether you donate or not.
The senders of this spam have possible motives: get your $’s based on ridiculous spam for their nefarious or whatever purposes.... OR... and I highly suspect this one: the opposition to throw a monkey wrench into Conservative donations.
> Having multiple phone numbers indicates that you are a drug
> dealer and probably a human trafficker.
LOL!!
Land line, and ONE cell phone. That’s all I have.
I could leave my wife’s dell phone, but I’d like to live to my next birthday.
> Being a magic jack subscriber has helped put an end to
> 99.9% of the telemarketing calls.
What is “magic jack”?
Can I use Joe Biden’s phone number? Or even Humper’s?
I don’t think your ‘solution’ will help. I don’t give to candidates, and it hasn’t stopped them from sending a stream of texts to my cell phone - a number I rarely give out, so I don’t know who they are buying the information from. Republicans address them to me, Democrats to my daughter (but to my cell phone, not hers). An occaisional phone call, as well.
Thats a great idea.
Maybe Ill just use my old one for that when I get my new one since Ill essentially be abandoning it anyways.
I donate to President Trumps web site and use 999-9999999 and they take my money . YMMV
Go to Google voice. Get a number. Set it to VM only.
You’ll get emails of the messages transcribed.
That’s how I handle requests for my number.
