The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated, you’ll be solving them all within a few days. If you’re stumped, take a break and return to it.

One last request. Feel free to post a fun or clever clue, the more tangential to the quotation the better, but please don’t put the actual words of the quote in the clue.

Most common letter isn’t what you think.
Don’t go for the 1st or 5th words by most common letter.
Look at the last word, think of common2-letter words that end sentences.
That gives you the 4th word, unlocks the first; that gives you the 2nd; and that blows up the whole puzzle.

The last four words jumped out at me. The rest was easy except the authors name.

I think the point is that one should avoid showing off. Displaying that attribute at the wrong time, or too often may be inappropriate or annoying. Like a high school kid who thinks he’s funny at a funeral.
It’s kind of the opposite of “when there’s too much money there’s not enough of it.”
