Are any Democrat Senators allowed to vote to confirm this Supreme Court nominee?

It is far more important to keep the majority in the Senate then to have a unanimous vote for Barrett. Let Collins keep her independent reputation.

Yes. She is a disappointment to be sure to conservatives. But, in this cycle the senate is on the line and the dems actually think they can take it.

If they do then no more conservative judicial appointments. So her seat is gold to us. And to be fair to her (and I personally think she is a simpleton) her state would never elect a strong conservative.

So as you say she is better than the alternative and more importantly her being re-elected may save our control of the senate.

She’s as good as you are going to get out of Maine. If she loses, that seat is gone, gone, for the next 30 years. Gideon is only 48.

She saved Kavanaugh in the face of rabid attacks. I’ll give her a pass on this.

We just have to realize that in some states a staunch conservative will not win.

"...crucial backing..."

Fake news!
Her vote was not "crucial"...

IMHO, most likely she realized that her future election chances were at risk if she abstained or voted 'no'...

What about that dumbass Susan Collins?

She’s probably gone after the election. She tried to hard to please people that wouldn’t be voting for her.

She’s up for re-election here in a state that does not like Trump.

You speak for the state of Maine? ;)

“Susan Collins may have “permission” from leader McConnell to be a no vote for Barrett. Susan Collins was very instrumental in getting Kavanaugh through so she may be getting a little gift this time. Democrats are famous for doing this for people in a District that they might lose In an upcoming election.”

The number one goal of every politician regardless of party is NOT to help people, save the world, feed staving children, hug bunnies, etc., but to get re-elected. Collins is currently behind in a tough race in an anti-Trump state.

This is a very important statement.

The reason is that it leaves Susan Collins alone in the wilderness.

Collins must realize by now that she's lost her seat. Her choice now is what kind of legacy she wants to leave behind.

Does she want to be know as a "maverick" who fought to make her party's legislation better, or does she want to go down in history as the first female Arlen Specter or John McCain, whose final act was to backstab the party that tolerated her for her entire career?

She can follow up on her Kavanaugh commitment to Democrat dirty tricks and support Amy Coney Barrett as her lasting legacy action, or she can be remembered in the end as a bitter disappointment who tried desperately to hold onto power by tossing her party under the bus when they needed her for a history-changing vote.

Biden +11?

RCP?

And you know that RCP polls speak for the people of Maine?

Given their lousy track record?

Good luck with that.

I think she likes the attention and it makes her feel powerful, which she also likes. Same with Murkowski.

“Collins must realize by now that she’s lost her seat”

They haven’t given up on her holding her seat. Recent polls show the race neck and neck.

I think you should thank Sarah Palin, she said she would primary her when she is up for re-election in 2022, if she voted no.
