Arctic outbreak poised to demolish records, usher in snow unusually far to the south

An Arctic outbreak even more extreme than one felt in early September is expected to race southeastward from the northern Rockies Friday night to the southern Plains by next Monday that could deliver temperature departures from average of 30-40 degrees Fahrenheit.

The air is forecast to be so cold at its peak as to bring nighttime low temperatures to within a few degrees of zero in parts of Idaho, much of Montana and Wyoming, as well as the western parts of the Dakotas and northern Colorado.

For example, "in Billings, Montana, the temperature is forecast to shatter the current record of 18 set in 1997 Saturday night by at least 14 degrees and to blow away the record low of 22 set in 2002 on Sunday night by 22 degrees," according to AccuWeather Meteorologist Reneé Duff.

Record-challenging cold will be felt as far south as New Mexico, Kansas, Oklahoma and Texas by early next week, where temperatures are forecast to dip into the teens and 20s at night.

Heavy snow, on the order of a foot or so, is most likely over the north- and east-facing ridges and peaks from Washington on Friday to northern Idaho and Montana on Saturday, Colorado on Sunday and northern New Mexico on Monday as the cold air pours in.

That's cool. It looks like a 21st century version of the Talbot Lago.

Whatever the weather is it will be called disastrous and weird and the govt will need more money to deal with it. This has been going on forever, long before global warming was ever an issue.

Just like water rates. Either there’s too much water or too little water each year. The rates have to be raised to deal with it.

It’s an old old scam.

“Nothing good ever comes from Canada.
Except John Candy, Shania Twain and Molson Export.”

I’d add in SCTV, RUSH(RIP Neil), Dan Aykroyd.

Hockey, Poutine, and Shania Twain (yes, it needed to be mentioned again). I think Pamela Anderson is Canadian. She was easy on the eyes back in the day.

Look up Tucker Carlson's interview with Bill Nye "The Science Guy" in which they discuss"climate change".

At the very end, it's easy to miss, Nye says something like "and we're not going to have another Ice Age".

Uhh...we can't stop the next glaciation, Bill, but wouldn't that be a good thing if we could?

Mile thick ice covering the continent everywhere north of Pittsburgh?

It’s 86 today in South Louisiana. Maybe by next Wednesday it may be down to 80.

Skiing @ Schwietzer?
I will have to call my buddy in Rathdrum.

It snowed last Friday night in northern NH. Some spots north of the White Mtns got 8-9”. It broke a lot of trees that still had their leaves.

We had a storm 5 years ago this weekend(before Halloween) where we got over a foot of wet heavy snow. All the Oak trees still had their leaves. There were broken trees everywhere. Power outages for over a week.

A mere 20 days ago our AC thermostat was on “Cool” mode. Today it’s on “Heat” mode. Something very strange is going on with our climate.
